Let's try this from a different angle.. The Esata controller the device needs is.

"via SATA controller with SiI3132 or SiI3124 chipset"

Anyone know what chipset the Asus G1S uses?

I do not think it will work
eSATA is modification of SATA reinforced for multiple connects/disconnects.
SATA does not work the way USB works - SATA doesn't allow more than 1 drive to a connector. The only option you have is to investigate motherboard design and how many SATA connectors it has. If your G1 has unused SATA ports inside, you may want to mod G1 to bring these unused ports to the surface. Are you ready?

Thanks for that.. I actually found a 2 x Esata port Host controller via expresscard, so I may try that. It's also cheaper. I'll probably get it in the next few days.

    Cheers

Actually it does work. Well, I don't know about this particular model. I have a G1S-B1 and a http://www.addonics.com/products/host_controller/ad5sapm.asp

I took an old desktop cabinet, screwed in 4 sata hard drives and a sata DVD RW, plugged all of them to this controller, and bought a external to internal sata bracket for the cabinet. Plugged an esata to esata cable from the laptop to the bracket, and know I have extra 4 hard drives (totalling 1.5 TB) and a faster, more reliable DVD recorder.

Performances are great, my 750GB drive is topping at 89MB/s, of course if you use 2 or 3 HD at the same time, speed is reduced.

The only problem is the turning on and off. Windows won't start or shut down if the thing is plugged in, and it doesn't always work right after plugging it in. Sometimes windows won't recognize one or 2 HD or even the DVD. But after a couple of starts on the Hds or In Out plugs of the esata cable everything works fine. Also very stable.

Very worth the acquisition, not to mention now my Data cluster is centralized. Buying a new laptop is now more hassle free, since all my data stays right here.
