How well will the Dual Core Atom 330 compare with the Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz? I can't find a notebook with both a decent dual core CPU and decent GPU. My Acer Aspire AS1410 is great, but the Intel 4500MHD is lacking for gaming support, and the Core 2 Solo SU3500 I have is a little weak as well. Granted it is a lot more powerful than an Atom N270 or N280 with GMA 950 that's for sure.
I find the 1201n attractive because it has the ION graphics, although it still has an Atom CPU, albeit a dual core. I hear it's really two N270's stuck together, and for many games, they don't care about dual core CPU's, as benchmarks have shown between a single core and dual core CPU.
So bottom line, how well does the Atom 330 compare with the SU7300?

According to notebookcheck, the SU7300 will still be faster than the Atom 330 despite the lower clock frequency.
Atom 330:
SuperPI (1M)-92sec
3DMark06 (CPU)-820
Cinebench R10 rendering single-535
Cinebench R10 rendering multi-1530
SU7300:
SuperPI (1M)-30sec
3DMark06 (CPU)-1286
Cinebench R10 rendering single-1610
Cinebench R10 rendering multi-3077 -
Thanks so much for that info. I also noticed this thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=424636
Problem is you can't find a notebook 11.6" or 12.1" that has an SU7300 AND a dedicated GPU, in particular ION.
I'm very sketpical about the dual core Atom. The N270 was just way too anemic for my tastes, but the 4500MHD is just a little shy of offering adequate performance in many games, probably due to CPU.
I guess I may just have to step up to a 13" to get what I want, but I really don't want to. -
If you're concerned about the lack of CPU/GPU power in a 11/12" chassis, then have you considered the 12" Asus U6 series? It's significantly more expensive than the typical netbook, but it supports up to the T9900 CPU and is equipped with a 9300M GS GPU.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I found the U6Vc-A1 for $700. The U6V is like $1200. I was hoping for something under $600.
I'm a bit confused though as to why we can't get the best of both worlds at a reasonable price. I mean an SU7300 and dedicated GPU should be doable for less than $600.
For the price of that U6 I'd rather go with something like the UL30vt. That's $800, hopefully they'll drop in price a bit. -
I was just about to suggest the UL30VT, but you beat me to it.
I'm thinking about one of those, or just getting the UL30A because it is $150 cheaper on Amazon. I don't think that I'll be needing a discrete GPU in a thin and light.
