Greetings - my neice attends NSU in Singapore. I would like to get an Eee PC 1000H for her. I have thought about ordering one from NewEgg, having it shipped to Germany, then shipping it to her in Singapore (after I install Office/ETC). But, it may be quicker (she really needs a laptop for school) to have her get one there. From what she tells me, laptops and electronics in general, are unusually expensive there. Does anyone have a feel for this or have any recommendations regarding reputable stores or vendors in Singapore? Thanks in advance.

Before a Singapore local or familiar drops an answer, I can offer the next best thing. :) Wikitravel.

I expect electronics aren't really that expensive in Singapore, after all it's SE Asia. Maybe she went into the wrong kind of shops (tourist traps?). They may be more expensive relative to US prices, though.

There's a few things you can do. One is just look around Funan Digitalife Mall or Sim Lim Square. Conveniently Sim Lim Square has its own forum of sorts, www.vr-zone.com

HOWEVER, she is right in that things electronic are way more expensive here than like in the US for example. In a year's time, I actually plan to sell my Asus G50V-A1 for the same price I just bought it. It's that bad. I cringe everytime I see prices in america. High-end laptops are the worst offenders.

you can check the prices on vr-zone (ask around) and on newegg first. Add in shipping costs and whatnot and see which is cheaper.

    Adyingwren,
where did u buy Asus G50V? I have looked all over Sim Lim Sq and Funan but I couldn't find a retailer that has it in stock. Even the Asus booth during the Comex 2008 didn't have the G50V. Or... did u import that thing from the US? Actually I was thinking the same thing as well but I was just too scared that the shipping itself might hit somewhere around $200.00 which is a bit too much IMO.
