Don't know if something is wrong with my 1215. So far haven't found a 3d game I could play with 30+ fps. Tried Jedi Academy and only got 21-25 fps. Pretty bad for a game with recommended settings of 600 mhz. I've really begun to regret this purchase. A shame I can't bring this piece of junk back and get a refund....

Also there seem to be minimal difference between using the Nvidia chipset or the integrated one. Max 2-3 fps.

Hey all, been considering this one myself now that the drivers issues are a bit cleared up, anyone able to get Mount and Blade running? I love that game!

Hi i saw your post in your other thread but figured i'd reply here. The 1215n is the better choice (game performance wise) in all but the most cpu demanding games(rts' etc). The superior architecture of the amd fusion processors will pull ahead of the atom despite overclocking in cpu bound games and give higher fps.

However in the majority of games because the ion2 is potentially allot better than the 6310 in the e350 fusion, overclocking the atom and lessening the bottleneck on the ion will give superior performance.

Mount and blade is one of the games i figured would work really well on the 1215n but despite trying many drivers and overclocking this thing to the brink its only JUST playable. Its either a driver issue or that the game is poorely threaded which brings the atom to its knees... overclocking the atom does help but not allot.

I believe that mount and blade would most likely work better on the 1215b due to the stronger processor so my advice would be to go that route if that game is a must.

*UPDATED FIRST POST WITH FEW NEW GAME PERFORMANCE RESULTS.

    Oogamar, thanks for the input.

I guess I just assumed Mount and blade would go good on the 1215n as I can play it(real skippy) on my 1005ha. You know what they say about assume.

If I can get it limping I'll be happy, I am not a stickler for graphics, heck I just started for probably the 20th time one of my favorite games of all times, Soldiers at war! Man I love it!!!!

In any case, I can live without it as I have my desktop for games as well, but mount and blade is one of those nice open ones without real set objectives so you can just do whatever you want, which makes it good for casual gaming while on the go.

Ah well, it sounds like the 1215n is more up my alley however.

I have a slew of games I love and don't mind running through the setup process of a overclocking the 1215n. then take an image once setup.

My big thing was getting HD video to not skip and having a bigger screen for web surfing.

Only other question I can think of off hand for the 1215b is how it compares with battery life, I am spoiled with my 1005ha right now!!!

As far as battery goes between the 1215n and the 1215b your looking at a hour or so more usage from the 1215b. 1215n gets about 4:30-5 hours tops for me.

For anyone who cares I have done some "tests" on a couple of games. Hope this helps those who are considering buying these games.

Amnesia The Dark Descent - tried multiple nvidia drivers, most run good except for a

    hicup here or there

The Ball - Runs fairly decent on all low settings, for it being a slowish game it does

    not really matter IMO

Call of Juarez Bound in Blood - Good FPS on all low settings except for textures on

high, surprised it looks so pretty for it running on this comp.

Commandos 2 - Perfect, as expected

Commandos 3 - Perfect, as expected

Crysis Warhead - Eh, Its playable on some drivers but from what I can tell is best

played on the newest drivers. Even then theres a some lag that makes me play on my

desktop instead. Playable and enjoyable though.

Farcry 2 - Apart from it boring me - it plays pretty good on all drivers I have tried.

Grand Theft Auto 4 - I have tried several drivers on this game and the best one for

me is 260.99. With a couple of modifications on the Visual and Timecy files it runs pretty

good. 30-15 frames per second. completely playable, Ive logged 20 hours on it on the 1215n

    ;)

Killing Floor - As many have already said, runs pretty good.

Mafia 1 - Does not run good. Tried integrated and Nvidia GPU with it lagging on me.

    Meh

Magika - Runs fairly well. Some drivers do not even want to run it so be aware and

update or fool around. I am using the latest and it runs well. 257.41 drivers do not run the

    game for me though.

Medal Of Honor Airborne - Runs really well and looks good too to boot!

    Portal 1 - Runs good

Portal 2 - Runs even better

    Rush - Runs very well

Super Meat Boy - Obviously runs well ;)

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - runs very good.

Tropico 3 - Runs really good with most settings on high/medium

    and last

The Wonderful End of the World - Runs pretty good until you gather a lot of junk and

it seems to make the comp compute it and once it does runs well. Until you get more junk

    ;)

As i posted a while ago now the driver issues have been cleared up since the 270.x series release the new driver performs pretty much the same as its predecessor.

Since the asus drivers are from an earlier line i bet they dont have the fixes in them, therefore im not going to bother trying them at this time. If someone else feels the need to try them though then be my guest ;).

In a nutshell; the new nvidia drivers are the best ones to use.

If you experience crashes of Internet Explorer (64-bit), then it is because of the new Nvidia drivers. Just run Sysinternals Autorun and deactivate the Nvidia entries under App Init, that should fix it.

I don't think optimus is supported under xp which means you are limited to the intel chip.

Has anybody an idea why games on the Half Life engine, like Counter Strike 1.6, run very sloppy (~30 fps) and games on the Half Life 2 engine, like Portal 2, run fine (~60fps at medium detail). This is ridiculous as HL1 is about 10 years older. Is there a way to boost performance on old games?

@celm you would like to try nvidia 267.75 driver version since that is the last one that worked ok.. cs 1.6 at aroun 50 fps, but for me still unplayable as online I get around 30 as you sad.... I also noticed that on the new driver 275.50 beta version also works okay, which I hope means that nvidia are working on this case... as far as I know there have been problems with opengl games in general... so I'm hoping for the best..cheers :)

    Dear all,
I am new here. I've read trough almost of this thread before writing, but please accept my apologize if something has been answered somewhere else (just point me in the right direction, thanks!).
I've done the following upgrades on my VX6: Win 7 Ultimate 64Bit - 8 Gb Crucial RAM - 500 Gb SeaGate Hybrid with 4 Gb SSD.
I have freshly reinstall all the operating system and all latest drivers from ASUS 64 bit section on their site (24th July), then I was trying to do some overclock following your guides. The parameters for GPU under nVidia Tools worked perfectly: I've also set "rules" to apply the O.C. at games startup and return to normal at closing of games. With CPU is where problems with SetFSB starts. Upon applying the O.C. USB 3.0 stopped to work at all, but USB 2.0 still operate. Even after returning to the original frequency, USB 3.0 will not be detected upon Computer restart. Anyone know how to fix this issue? I currently need to have the USB 3.0 operative... Another question (maybe silly) it is normal that upon the specific menu of nVidia tools it is listed 1.8 GHZ for CPU frequency, even after SetFSB increase to ~2.15 GHZ?
As last issue, even I have the distasteful issue to not being able to see Youtube videos at full screen, since Flash failure (I am currently using FireFox). Any news on this, apart disabling ION on this?
Thank you all in advance for your courtesy. :)

My brother seems to be having an odd issue that I can't seem to fix.

So, when plugged into the TV via HDMI it can play a 1080p h264 .mkv perfectly fine. Buttery smooth and no lag or skips at all. (Using the newest CCCP pack, configured for hardware acceleration).

However, when attempting to play the same file back on netbook screen, hardware acceleration doesn't kick in and he's stuck with stuttering video. I've force-enabled the ION2 GPU, but nothing going, there. Still stuttery.

Any ideas? It's running Win7 HP 32-bit (with 4GB RAM physically inside) and uses the newest ION2 driver from Asus' website.

That's a hard-wired problem. Someone found this out a few pages before. Actually it is a "feature" to bypass the slow Intel GPU...

    1. Try to disconnect the power and the battery for some time.
    2. Check GPU-Z for reference.
    3. Use newest WHQL Nvidia drivers, disable hardware acceleration in Internet Explorer and install Flash beta 11.

BTW, how did you managed to open up the VX6? I saw a post for the 1215n but not the VX6. I would be interessted in a guide...

Actually that's only half correct. The ION does handle hardware acceleration when using certain players and applications (WMP for example) because the optimus technology has profiles to facilitate this. However, some programs like vlc media player (which i assume he is using to play the .mkv file) and google chrome don't utilise the ION due to lack of support. Plugging in to an external monitor bypasses the optimus technology altogether thus eliminating the issue. To summarise anything you play through wmp will be hw accelerated but most other players will not.

Has anyone's 1215N had its keyboard input all messed up? When I hit the "Pause/Break" key, I get an "m". When I hit "Delete", I get an "d". My down arrow key only works when holding it down. If I hit "a" it gives me double a's. I tried installing new chipset driver, reinstalling the keyboard driver, reinstalling Win7 but no success... ?

    Hi Guys.
Can someone explain me slowly how to propely OC this atom D525 for about 2.0ghz with this program setFSB? When I tried to do this my mouse stops working and i had a problem with booting after restart (had to pull of and on my battery to work again) - OC was little to 1,9ghz.
And I also bought extra 2GB of RAM for this little thing coz it isnt working as good as i thought to.

Oh by the way.. Is there any solution for cleaning edges of a LCD? This plastic is very scratchy.. I have this netbook for a week and this looks terrible right now.
Maybe we shouldnt clean this at all? :/

    Cheers.

    Hi
    I have a problem with my 1215n (windows 7 ultimate x32; bios 0902; ion driver 267.76)

I have major lags when i play games (any game). For instance, playing NFS:Undercover i have frame drops from 40 fps to 7 fps.
same for "Rock of ages", "Oblivion", "Minecraft" and many others.

I've tryed all the drivers in the nvidia website, i have everything updated.

    any clues?

    thank you all

using the nvidia chip, no overclock, background programs: the nvidia "stuff", administrator?(running the games in the "regular" user makes them lag?), super performance on, no ad/spyware, no heat problems, fresh windows installation...

I've tryed everything... maybe I will re-reinstall windows again..
which nvidia drivers do you use? what is you bios version?
    (sorry for the bad english)

    thanks

administrative power gives programs access to other things they could need/use. i've updated my bios once, and i use the driver i posted up a few, 260.26.

    fragmentation?

if it is vanilla (new/unchanged) windows then i'm not sure what your issue could be, my experience would tell me resource hogs...

I can as well as 1080p Youtube... But really, this laptop has a mind of its own. Sometimes it will play them both perfectly well and then play them with out of sync audio and choppy playback.

using up to date bios and nvidia 275.33. Hope that helps!

    Dear Friends

First of all I am a Computer Systems Engineer (University guy yoo!!!!)

I did a big investigation about the 1215n (cause i bought it recently). The GPU ION2 is in fact a (GT218 Chip known as GT218ION-AE with 16 cuda- 40nm) . That means that the original stable clocks for that chip should be:

    535
    790
1230 check ( Welcome to NVIDIA - World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies)

Furthermore the driver specially the newest ones don't perform well, the best driver for stability and performance is 257.41.

They underclocked the card for power consumption issues due to the fact that is a low power solution motherboard.

Finally a safe solution will always be GameBooster 3 to decrease the running processes in windows and give to the CPU 0% utilization on idle.

I hope I helped some of u and everybody feels happy with his netbook.

    Kostas

I bought a Transcend 16GB Class 10 SDHC card to use with my new Asus netbook (Eee PC 1215N-PU17).

Although the card is listed as 16GB, when I try to configure for use with ReadyBoost, the card shows as only 4GB.

Is this a limitation of the OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) ? Or do I need to do something else to configure the SDHC flash card ?

Oh, nevermind on the SDHC card question --- figured out how to format it in NTFS so Windows would see the entire 16 G.

What memory configuration is better? 1x4Gb or 2x2Gb?
I've seen a guy on youtube saying that he uses 8Gb ram . Is it fake? I've read that 1215n only supports up to 4Gb.

The 1215n does support 8gb of ram and personally i'd go for whatever works out cheapest because the performance difference between the two is virtually nothing.

I bought a 1215N-PU17 two months ago, to replace a failed Sony Vaio Z. It was for my daughter in college, and I had to make a very quick but affordable choice.

The only upgrades done so far are adding one 2G RAM to bring it up to 3Gig, and adding a 16GB Class 10 SDHC Card. I have done no BIOS or video driver upgrades.

The 1215N works okay for most things, but video use is causing random BSOD. BSOD occurs during use of Hulu or Skype. Error received:

    Critical:
    Time: 7:53:26
    Source: Kernel-Power
    Event ID: 41
    Task Category: (63)

I did some research, this is a fairly common Windows 7 error. I hoping someone with this issue on this model may have
    found a resolution.

Either kind is fine, the system itself runs the ram at 800mhz regardless of the original rated speed so it doesnt matter which you get.
