I swapped HDDs last year by imaging the entire OEM drive with Clonezilla. The transfer went okay, but recently I tried invoking the system restore just to see if it works and it did not.

The ASUS OEM restore console (invoked with F9 at startup) did not open, but it did mark the recovery partition as active, preventing me from being able to boot into C:

I fixed this by physically removing the drive and marking C: active again (after connecting it to my desktop pc).

One thing I did notice is the recovery partition is the 3rd from the left in disk management, and it's possible I messed up the partition order last year during the drive transfer. And I noticed on ASUS support they have a pic of the recovery partition pictured as the first on the disc.

I'm hesitant to try the F9 command again as it was not the easiest fix. Does anyone have more info on this subject?

Usually they do look for it on a specific part of the drive yes.

Thanks. I found a user with an Eee PC similar to mine who posted their disk management order online and it is just like my current order. I thought it was unlikely that I would change the order of the partitions, but I was just theorizing about why the restore isn't working.

So to recap, I disabled boot booster and quiet boot, hit F9, did not see the restore console, I may have pressed a few keys, then powered down. Later I found out that my C: had been unmarked as active, and the restore partition had been marked as active.

I did have noguiboot checked when I attempted to run the recovery, maybe it did run but I was unable to see it? Seems unlikely, but I don't know at this point.
