Does anyone have an EEE PC 1000H? I was wondering if the RAM is located under the machine accessible by a panel so that you don't need to remove the entire bottom? Is it only 1 slot or 2?

I read that the RAM is easily upgradable but "easy" is a relative term. I know the MSI Wind requires you to remove the entire bottom to get to the RAM slots.

There are some videos out there on how to upgrade to RAM on the 1000h. But i'm pretty sure that it is just a single panel you pop open, and there is only one RAM slot to upgrade to 2GB. I'll know on Tuesday though when I finally get mine. :D

i have the 1000h and i can honestly say that if there was a level that precedes "easy," upgrading the ram on the 1000h would be waay before that. there is one panel that can be removed by taking out 2 screws, which will then expose the HD and also the ram. there is only one slot for ram and it supports up to ddr2 pc5300 2gb dimms. compared to the wind (which i owned for about a month), the eee 1000h is much better designed for user upgrade-ability. on a scale of 1-10 (10 being most difficult to install), i would rate upgrading the ram a -1.

    Thanks for the replies!

I fail at youtube. I can't find any videos that show ram changing on the 1000H.

But, it sure sounds easy. That's a relief. I'd only be opening it up once, but it's good to know I don't need to take the whole bottom of the laptop off to do it. I'm used to laptops with a ram panel on the bottom.

yes it's much easier than i can explain, but basically if you can unscrew two philips head screws, lift up a panel, and pop in the new ram, the install should be a piece of cake.

    Wouldn't upgrading RAM cease warranty?

Unless there is a warranty sticker over the RAM slot to be broken (which I doubt, but an actual owner will have to confirm/disprove as I don't have one) RAM upgrades do not void Asus warranty since the slot is user accessible.

On the initial Asus 4G release last year, this action did void it but that was because you had to nearly disassemble the thing to get at the slot.

I also do not know for sure, but people say you can upgrade the EEE PC 1000H RAM without voiding warranty.

The MSI Wind is another one that you need to break the warranty seal in order to get to the RAM because you need to remove the entire bottom of the machine. However, I've ready people saying that you can register your upgrade with MSI and they will send you a new warranty seal. But, if that is the case what's the seal for?

there is a tiny sticker on the bottom panel that is labeled "eee pc" that can break if you're not careful. i don't know if it'll void warranty if you break that label (it doesn't say anything about warranty, so I'm guessing no), but it is really easy to bypass. all you have to do is unscrew the cover and then lift it slowly in an arc. when you do that, the sticker should lift off along with the panel. when you go to put the panel back on, the sticker will still look intact.
