    Embarrassing question.

I just got my Asus from GenTech and it came with a free 8GB Solid State Drive Express Card.

This is the silly part. I'm so sure I am correctly inserting my card into the designated slot, but I keep getting 3/4 inch of the card sticking out.

I insert the card with the connector side first, and with the 8GB logo facing up.

Do I just need to apply more force, or is there a technique? Am I doing something wrong? Is there something wrong with this card?

    Please advise.

Expresscards usually DO stick out, you should hear a click when it is inserted properly. Pushing it in again should release it and it will spring out of the slot.

Yeah...sorry. Reboot and if it is in, you're good.

The tray that is originally in the slot does what you mentioned, but my Express card doesn't.

I can get the whole "display tray" into the slot with ease, but when I stick my card in there, I can only get 3/4 with ease before it stops.

I know this is way too much to be sticking out. Shouldn't it be flush?

Another thing that really confuses me is this:

I notice there is a small ridge on the 8GB SSD towards the front of the card on the label side.

When I pop out the "stock tray" that pre-occupies the ExpressCard slot, it looks like the ridge section is on the underside.

But if I listen to the Asus Manual, it recommends inserting the card with the ridge up.

So there are these two conflicting ways to insert the card, and I'm not sure which source is better. I thought to myself it would be best to insert the card in the method that the plastic tray was inserted?

Don't be embarrassing, it's not your fault, it's Transcend. they assemble the connector upside down on the new batch, send it back to us and will send you a new one once we received the new batch from them.

    Sigh....

Oh, wow. I thought there had to be something wrong. No wonder why it was impossible.

How should I go about returning this?

Yeah first I didn't believe it until I try to insert the card myself.
I guess "QC passed" is only for decoration.

    I'll send you PM.

That's not a silly question at all, that's probably a question that's going to help several other people, hopefully before they broke their laptop trying to smash the card into place with their shoe or something.

Fortunately, no, that was just a worst case scenario example. I haven't made a mistake like that since I was about 12 and tried to jam an Atari 2600 cartridge into the expansion port of my Laser 128. It fit with a little bit of effort, but it also ruined the computer and the game.
