Its pain in the a*se. Spoke to Asus today and they told me that I had a BIOS Problem and to download the latest BIOS. Said I already had the latest BIOS from their website and she told me that there was a newer one than 300 and that she will send me the link!! I don't get it. They are keeping the support for the cheaper models but not for the more expensive ones!!

They probably folded it into the base model page - you can get the complete page by searching for W2J (rather than W2Jc) in the Download section. This will give you the full listing of files for your model, with the latest update being Oct 2007.

I have noticed that the estore resolved almost all the parts for the V6Va into the V6V section; they now even have the fantastic IPS screen only in the V6V section, even though it was only ever offered on the V6Va.

The support for the W2J has still not been updated since Vista was released. Majority of XP downloads are dated 2006 and Vista early 2007!

    tphilly1984,

interested to hear about the new BIOS (>300 that is)
Could you post the link here?

My fan alternatively works and then doesn't work on start-up, so I'm flashing the BIOS to see if that helps matters. Re-flashed 300 a couple of times already, with no improvement.

The lid covering the fan and heatsink on the bottom, has already gotten so hot because of the fan failure that it has melted...
Any other ideas? I'm using speedfan to monitor the situation.

    Thanks, Pjotrski

Thanks a lot ClearSkies, you were right.
    modded the url and bingo.

But dear uncle ASUS, why offer the choice of W2JC in the drop-down list if there are no files behind it

Speedfan has been known to cause major problems for Asus notebooks, including screwing with ACPI fan on/off and speed settings (i.e. turning the fan off and preventing the BIOS from turning it back on despite high cpu temp).

I would uninstall Speedfan ASAP and find some other software to monitor your temps, as Speedfan could certainly be the cause for your fan problem if you've had it installed for some time. Asus NBProbe will follow fan speed, on/off status and system temps.

try Notebook Hardware Control instead of Speedfan to keep an eye on your temps. Do find it is better

Alright gents thank you so much for your advice, (sorry, If I assume  ...)

I've uninstalled speedfan, although I installed it as a reaction to my W2JC's meltdown
(to monitor the fan and alert me when the speed goes down or temps pass a certain threshold by beeping furiously).
    It wasn't the cause!

NHC doesn't seem to look at fan speeds unfortunately, though it is a nice tool.
Asus NBprobe is downloading as we speak.

Still need to get to the bottom of the cause of the fan working/not working.
My priority was to continue using the laptop without destroying any more of the plastic on my baby's bottom.:GEEK:
