I know that the G50V comes with VGA port so yes i know that i could hook it up to my external 20" LCD, but i have never done this before so i don't know how i would go about doing it? i read in forums pressing FN +f8 twice would switch monitors but i have two questions
1.) how can i run both my laptop and the external at the same time using the two screens to do two separate things ie: run a game on external and chat/browse websites on the laptop or vice versa.
and
2.) how and is it possible if i can just hook up a usb keyboard + mouse and just shut my laptop closed, and run the external screen as my monitor?
thank you very much for the information and directions in advance to those who help.

1. Yes
2. Change some settings in the Control Panel, under Display. -
1. right-click on your desktop -> select 'NVIDIA control panel' -> on the left, under Display, select 'upset multiple displays' -> then select 'configured independently from each other (dual view)' -> click apply.
2. go to your power option in your control panel and select do nothing when I close the lid of my portable computer. -

Some may say its not good to use the lid closed since some venting is done thru the keyboard.

No venting is done through the keyboard actually...

Don't feel anything through mine...
Get a notebook cooler if you're afraid of heat. -
Aye. I will sometimes close the lid when I want to use my 24" LCD monitor to watch a Blu-ray or, on occasion, game. I have the Lapcool Pro from Vantec which works like a charm to ensure it remains cool and has three speed settings (can only hear the fans on the highest setting).
Only thing to keep in mind is to set your laptop not to go into "sleep mode" when you close the lid. I think you can find it via the Windows Mobility Center in Vista.
