I have my name on a pre-order list for a G1. I was thinking about getting a spare battery so I can keep computing if I'm not near any place to plug in.

My question is, does it make sense to be swaping two batteries like that? Are both going to reach the end of their recharge lives at the same time? I guess that is the only way to keep going if I'm not near a power source.

By having and using 2 batteries you are definitely extending the battery life of both but it is a good idea to use both equaly not just store one of them. Storing battery can kill them. They will not die together but it is safe to asume they will wear at about the same rate if used same rate.

I'd recommend seeing if the battery that comes with the system is not enough first. Then if you determine that you need a second battery, you buy it when you need it. Li-Ion batteries degrade over time, and so buying only when needed helps to combat that some.

Read more about it in our battery guide.
