I've had my M50VM for around a week, and today I've started noticing a high pitched sound when I connect my headphones. This didn't happen before, I've tried everything. Messed with the settings, with the microphone, I even installed a new driver from realtek's homepage, and now the headphones won't work!, and you can still hear the high pitched sound when you connect them. Should I return the laptop?

If you have any USB devices plugged on the right side of the notebook, try disconnecting them or use the USB on the left.

i don't find it a big problem i dont notice it after awhile, maybe it is worse on different headphones, i use ATH-A900's -

Hmm strange, whats the deal voltage feedback from the usb port in use, or not enough power for the two to share?
-
Also it is hard to tell but i am pretty sure it goes away when you are outputting sound, you can only hear it when you just have your headphones on and not playing anything, but start music or a video or any kind of sound and you don't notice it.

Yeah, that was the problem. Thanks for the suggestion!!
It definately is a manufacturing defect. What will Asus do about it? -

It indeed seems like a voltage problem. -

The problem existed in the M50Sv too, and apparently Asus is working on a BIOS fix for the problem.
look on page 80 of the M50Sv: review and owners lounge -
My boss headphone does not have problem. You shall try another headphone.
Good Luck! -
I tried everything like all you guys said and none of it worked..so i let it be for a while...then i installed vista ultimate 64 and the sound hasn't been back for 3 weeks now...i gues just deletin the drivers and reinstalling them should work..thats basically wat i did...that clicking noise was really annoying though..

I've had mice that did that to desktop speakers. You could only hear it when you were moving the mouse. I always assumed it was some sort of RF shielding problem, as I could produce a similar noise when a cell phone would be about to ring a few inches from the same speakers. Since the USB ports on either side would require the same voltage and share it the same way with the microphone port, I'm not sure I understand how voltage comes into it.

are you guys using the mouse that came with the laptop, because i unplugged that one and used a different USB mouse and now the noise is gone.

I've been using headphones and Asus mouse for a couple of weeks and do not have this issue. Whoever has issues, did you install 64 bit OS maybe?
Extremely annoying M50VM headphone issue!
