When I first oreder/recieved my Asus Z70VA I was excited, This was my first laptop and was a perfect match for what I wanted. Then I started having red ghosting on the screen so I contacted my reseller (name withheld) got an RMA and sent it in. THAT WAS 1 MONTH AGO!!!! I so firggin angry I just wanna smash my laptop with a sledge then roll over it with a steamroller, then dump gasoline on it and laugh gleefully as I watch it turn to slag. I spent a lot of money for this POS and the frickin repair people have had it longer than I have. I tried to get a refund but my reseller refused, see I'd had it for 6 weeks by then. I've only had it for 6 weeks period. So I think I'm gonna take a loss and just sell it. I'll also never shop with my reseller again either. For a first experience that has been extremely dismal. If you wanna know who the Reseller was, PM me.

Theres no need to pm you for that. If you read through your other posts you do state who your reseller is. Kind of surprising. I belive your vendor uses chembook factorey for warrantee so that may explain it. I am really sorry for your troubles. We replaced all our screens with ghosting (numbering in the hundreds now) within 48 hours always. The only mistake we made was allowing one of those in cali to go back to asus which did come back with a new screen but worse ghosting. Sorry for your loss. Hope you can work it out with your vendor. 48hour turn around on this is what i would expect but not every vendor can provide...

LOL, see. When I start thinking about it, I just start frothing and forget that I may have mentioned that. To make matters worse, I'm going to get raped if I try to sell it due to the new dual core lappys hitting the street now/soon. Anyone want to buy a laptop?

Yeah, no offense but that is one way a company who physically builds your system is different from one who has it built for them... Technically if this was built through chembook, Asus is responsible to them, they are responsible to your dealer and it's only your dealer who is responsible to you......... when Asus isn't responsible to the dealer - there could often be issues and frankly - I'd let Asus slide on this, because you've been getting the run around and Asus can't defend themselves.... your notebook could have been at your dealer or at chembook for a lot longer than they said....... it could still be at chembook for all you know.... so, try to understand that.

Dude I still dont understand. Why dont you get the screen replaced as i said we have done it over a hundred times now in the last few months, always fast always right (except 1 or 2 exceptions). Or you just dont want it period? Contact your vendor tell em how you feel. Call asus tell em what happen. Someone out there must care!!!

OK, they are trying to replace the screen. I sent it to powernotebooks.com's repaire facility in Southern California, they sent that Notebook to Asus in Northern California, Asus said they tested (load of BS) it and could not find anything wrong. Frank at the So.Cal repair depot got it back and guess what? He was able to get the red ghosting (So much for Asus's Stellar service) so he had to send it back, now for some unknown reason it been sitting at Asus for God only knows why. When/If they get it fixed (Per Frank they were supposed to change the screen out the first time and they're supposed to do it change this time too) it will have to go back to Frank get tested then sent to me. If it's not fixed then back to Asus we go. So there you have my own little personal hell, all resulting from a bad screen that Asus was either to blind to see or to unintelligent to correct the first time. I might add that I included a typewritten letter and a video of how to reproduce the ghosting, so Asus has in my opinion NO EXCUSE.

I thought about calling Asus but what do they care? I called my Vendor and got co-miseration, lotta good that does. Sure everyone feels bad but nobody has offered a solution either.

ah you're right, search does reveal :p

anyways, I believe Powernotebooks uses Elite and Crown not Chembook. Chembook is commonly associated with Discountlaptops.

That may be true, but Donald from PN will even tell you that their "repair facility" is Chembook's place in california - becasue PN is in Nevada..... They sell units in which Chembook warranties, not PN - if I'm not mistaken - which makes it's Chembook's deal to take care of.

... this "frank" is just a random name, at random place unless you can pinpoint him - so for them to tell you it was at asus and they didn't do anything is purely hearsay........ Unless you called Asus yourself and had them check on your serial number - you're not going to get a good answer and for all you know it never went to asus - you have no proof that it even has.

    PROPortable,

Frank is not a Powernotebooks.com Employee. He works for a company called Whitebooks. Yes I know that Whitebook refers to ODM laptops but Frank has been refered to a number of times by Powernotebooks.com employees as "Frank over at Whitebooks". I have in fact spoke with people at Asus in California and so have no reason to believe that there is any deception going on. Finger pointing (a thing often done in the computer industry) is of no interest to me. I hold them ALL equally responsible for this mess for various reasons. Powernotebooks for poor QC and failing to ensure the rapidity of my laptops movement beyond my sending it to them, Whitebooks (if that is indeed their name) for failing to speak up when they were informed this was a screen failure and not saying that it needs to go directly to Asus, and Asus for releasing such a shoddy product. Yes I know is been well reviewed and all but this is my personel direct experience with it and so that is what ultimately defines my impressions of the quality of this laptop. I have at this point ZERO confidence in this Laptop now and am unsure I will even have any. I just wish it functioned as well as it looked.

OK, well I want to try to help you if I can... so try to understand. I'm not sure what or who "whitebooks" are as a company, but I'm going to hope and guess it's a front for Chembook so as not to reveal their source..... If not, then it's another company in the loop which is a real problem in my eyes because I know we could never do that because we can't be responsible for other people's timing and actions - so if we were forced to be in a situation like this, there would be screaming involved as it's ultimately our reputation on the line..... you didn't buy from Asus or Chembook or "Whitebooks" - you ordered from Powernotebooks. Now, as the only notebook company with more reivews than us on ResellerRatings (honestly I don't know how they get such a high number of their customers to take the time out to place a review), but they are a good and responsible company. The sad fact is, if they aren't getting it done for you - that is where you state your case because you've already exhausted every other method. Asus and frankly your Z70va is not to blame here and PowerNotebooks needs to take this out with whoever has your computer because that place is solely responsible to PN and not you.... and unless you call Asus with your serial number and they tell you that it has indeed been in for service (and they have no reason to lie to you as it's just a matter of fact), then I would say this service facility is full of it and a great deal of BS is flying around.

If you want my help on the situation, drop me an email with as much information (details) about what's going on - along with your serial numbers and dates and names.

Justin, everything you say here is simply not true.

    1. Chembook has nothing to do with PowerNotebooks.com and has not for years.
    2. Frank is NOT a random name. He is the manager of our factory repair depot.
    3. The laptop has been at Asus twice, just as mute1 says.

I do not appreaciate you posting this false information about PowerNotebooks.com, and the insinuations that it represents. You should know better than to post this kind of drival on a public forum. Shame on you!

Sheesh Justin...you are just showing your ignorance here, and your lack of ability to read the previous posts.

The fact is that we are handling this situation and do not need your help, nor could you do anything better than we have done here. The fact is that we are handling this with Asus. Asus has totally blown this one, but as you very well know everyone makes mistakes...yes, even Asus...

There is no BS flying around except that which you are blowing. My recommendation to you is to be very cautious about jumping into something about which you obviously know very little, and to be even more careful about defaming PowerNotebooks.com in writing on a public forum.

....Glad you could take the time to join the conversation.

Thanks for clearing that up Donald - I was only only going off of the information this guy gave us and the links to Chembook on your site, last I looked - but I don't keep up with it so I apoligize about that, but it's really a moot point. Before you get down my throat though, notice the guy wasn't getting help from your guys, so why don't you try to help him before you think I'm badmouthing your company.... I think he already did enough of that, and I was simply trying to help and before he went off on how bad Asus was - I wanted him to have proof that it was even there.

... but now that you tell us Frank is a real person and you are responsible for it.... deal with your customer and don't give me that "shame on you" line... Shame on you, I complimented you guys and said something's array... if they're not getting anywhere, don't sit and complain about Asus, be proactive and take care of the situation yourself.

    Have a good evening.

How can Justin show that Asus is not the party at fault here?

Neither he nor you know that the facts here are any different than mute1 represents them to be.

I welcome either of you to check your facts before making such claims. If upon doing so they turn out to be anything other than mute1 has represented them to be...THEN come back here to report it. However guesswork and gossip have little credibility here.

Well at one point you had my respect, but you've blown that. You're not handling the situation, otherwise there wouldn't be a thread about how pissed this guy is and frankly he has every right to be. I don't care if Asus blew anything.... We do our repairs in house most of the time because of situations like this... because it's not Asus' responsiblity, it's yours. I was willing to help him, but giving YOU a call. If that didn't help I would have sought other methods, but I would at least try...

... I don't know what's up with you, but get a clue. I don't care who builds, supports, repairs your systems or anyone elses... but if someone came on here and complained about how we were handling something, I'd sure hope someone would try to get the bottom of it and offer their assistance if I wasn't around or didn't feel like responded. Use some of that energy and help your customer.

I couldn't show that Asus was not at fault, but I could certainly find out if the notebook even went to Asus - but so could the customer... If it didn't, then there were other things the customer needed to worry about, because he quoted - "frank" as well as "whitebooks" ... which in a way is almost like saying while asking a question, as if they really had no clue as to what was going on......

But again... This is for you to deal with and I was only trying to help... if I wanted to gossip, I'd certainly come up with something better and I wouldn't interupt a customer of yours who was clearly complaining about everything that has gone on.... I could do a song and dance and yet his words say still draw more attention.

$%#& - I brought it up because I was responding to Donalds post... do you think I read every post? I don't care who builds the systems, it's clear and open that they don't build them for themselves so we have another level of complexity which is why the consumer don't know heads from tails..... Aliens could build the system and you're in the same boat....

.... 1 company, 2, 3, 4... whatever.. everyone is responsible to someone, but it doesn't mean that everyone is responsible to everyone..... if that makes sense.

I have nothing against you. Thats a good thing becuase most people here know who i dislike and why i dislike them and how spitefull i can be. I think i miss the obvious point here. Between my self and justin we appreciate that its you guys selling asus then a few other partucular companies. I rather it be you then others becuase i know you guys stand behind the product.
I hate to point out the obvious here. We all have our fair share of the asus bread and butter here. Everyone knows we replaced 99% of our ghosted screens in our warehouse within 48hour turn around. We never looked to asus for help here except to rma our units sitting on the burner. By far we have been plagued the worst by this problem which is indicative of the fact that we possiby sell alot of the z70va which was our most popular system this year despite the ghosting issue. You will not find our customers posting here or anywhere else that they did not agree with the service we provided even thoough we did screw up once or twice, but on the scale of over 100 rma'd z70va's ... What i am saying is you kind of do need our help becuase obviously your customer did something that is not expected. i ve never seen your customer post anything bad like this. I think its an isolated incident. Hoping you take care of him and hope he remains mute in the future becuase he does not have further issues. It was nothing personal. Noboddy ragged on you here. If we didnt respect you i would be all over you and trust me i would not defent your kind name. I think you took it all wrong here. Maybee justin had his facts wrong but he was not trying to do any damage. We may be on different sides but you me and him are all in the same boat which has very strict membership guidelines. The reason we respect you here is becuase the majority of questions we answer and problems we solve are comming from people that bought from places that dont have a "boarding pass". Hope you follow me. I cant speak for Justin but i can say with certainty you missinterpreted his posts just a bit. If you need a clear solution here i would be glad to let you know exactly how. I am not a teacher here but you can call me the grand daddy of ghosting. Be glad to give you advice which you probably dont need but the offer is there. :)

sorry, you've kept throwing out Chembooks name even after 3-4 posts saying that PN does not carry them. And while I don't know how reliable Chembook is etc, it certainly gives readers a negative impression of them when the name is thrown around like that.

I think the whole problem with this is that the warranty is done by a third party. Ghosting is like a terminal disease. Its hard to notice and harder to screen for. It has spread to areas unnafcted. We always have the option for asus to service our warranty. Less then 1% of our returned laptops are serviced by asus. That means 99% are service by us. I hope nobody there takes this personally but attention to detail is not up to par, that is why we dont outsource. I venture to say the same about chembook and most other distis. The reason we do 100% of service in house??? We do it right the first time without any missing screws and without any screw ups but there is always an exception. So if you got your z70va screen replaced 3 times and it always comes back with ghosting or develops ghosting sometime later you either had it repaired by asus/3rd party or you were the unfortunate gentlemen who had it repaired by us and returned it 3 times with like 1% ghosting finally only to exchange it for the z83v.

... let me end it with one simple statement... Asus is and has been very aware of this red ghosting issue and they know the serial number range that possibily could be affected once the lcd chips where bought back from the manufacturer, Asus sent out a new screen to anyone who needed it, no questions asked because they knew it was an issue.... for it to go to Asus twice makes no sense and personally whether they drop the ball or not, Asus' head tech has been a friend of mine since he started there.... this is an insult to them after they have been so good about taking care of this situation. So, basically, something smells fowl here and as Eddie said, I'm just trying to help and you took everything out of context..... if they came back tomorrow and said they talked to you guys directly and you said their's nothing you can do - then that would be that..... but I didn't want them coming on here and bashing Asus or you guys while there was a middleman involved who may be jerking them around.

... but you cleared it up, it's your own guy who was jerking them around and you're taking care of the situation.... looks like they got the help I offered afterall....

100% agreed. It would make no sence for a vendor to send back the screen get it repaired and returned with the same problem and take another stab at it. Though in defence of it comming back twice. Out of about 100 or more screen we have had replaced i would say about 30% we had to send right back and pray the next batch was ok. It may have worked like this becuase i was on the phone with them every day begging for a fast shipment without screening as we were screening them here but thats prolly why they approved most of those screens through advanced replacement. After a few failed attempts of them not being able to detect ghosting for some cali customers i finally stopped offering our cali customers the option to rma to asus and we took the responsibility for all of them which without a doubt was a right decision. No offence but we pretty much stopped using asus to service our barebones. They are not bad. But we are just better. Thats the only advice i can give in this situation. If your suplier cant help in a way which appeals to you or your customer then do it your self. On a grand scale asus rma is still way faster, way more reliable, more attentive to detail and just easier to deal with then any other. Dell business side support is the only one that can compete there. If only asus can offer something like that then they can blow dells business support out of the water

My mentioning Chembook means and does nothing.. they don't sell to individuals and some random companies buy from them and sell them.... good or bad, I really don't care, but in a situation like that if a different name brand is on that system, they are who's warranting it. Either they are directly responsible to you - or your dealer brands it and then they are directly responsible to you and this other company is responsible to them..... I think that's easy enough to understand..... I mean, it's like Asus with the barebones... they are not responsible to the end user in any single way... they have their turnaround times and if that's longer than your dealers turnaround times, it's not Asus' fault...

In a case like this, you just add another layer and it has to go up the ladder and although I'm sure that's fine and dandy 95% of the time.... a situation like this could still happen and the fact of the matter is that if it was getting taken care of at the time and done right, they wouldn't have made a post to begin with........ So Chembook or anyone else.... it doesn't matter... but they're a distributor of sorts and I don't care who uses them, but even in a situation like this, they wouldn't be "at fault", although they may be "responsible".... they're just not responsible to the end user who's complaining about them.... But we're not talking about Chembook.... but no sales will be lost because we thought so.... but then again, Eddie brought up the name first.... there's no harm done.

Eddie you should probably preface the fact that most of those that reappeared with ghosting were probably prior to the lcd module being pointed out at the problem and the new shipment of fresh screens coming in...... once that happened I don't think there was a problem because everything they had in at that point was shipped back to Taiwan and the lcd maker bought them back.

Actually the true ghosting free shipment was the last one not the one before it. Before january every shipment had ghosting issues including one that was "believed" not to. I found out the hardway unfortunately. Great timing to finally fix the problem when the laptop is about to go e.o.l.

I fail to see why we are still talking about Chembook when I believe it has been established that this particular unit was assembled by Equus/Whitebooks.com (owners of the Nobilis brand).

That aside, I'm not sure why anyone, let alone competing resellers would come into a public forum such as this and disparage another reseller. Can't help but think you are opening up a legal can of worms when we are dealing with a company with MANY satisfied customers.

Focus on the greater picture and not on the single incident. We've all had customer issues that didn't get resolved to our satisfaction, might just well be that this is such a case for Donald. In closing....#$% happens and I'm sure Donald and the rest of the folks at PN.com are doing their best to arrive at a resolution as expeditiously as possible.

The tenor of this thread suggests otherwise, though, admittedly, you were not the protagonist, Eddie :)

Beating a dead horse here, I suggest that this thread be allowed to lay fallow or be locked by a mod as it has detiorated to nothing but reseller bashing.

    Thread closed.

This thread really isn't beneficial to anyone anymore... the original poster appears to be getting the service he deserves - there's nothing more that needs to be said. This should prevent any "unnecessary flaming" to develop.

I've received many PM's from various users asking me to re-open this thread for some "final words"... and so I have re-opened it.
However... if there is any sort of flaming or name calling going on, I will be forced to close it again.

I think this thread is very telling. As a middle aged professional about to purchase his first notebook computer, this thread has confirmed what I thought about several retailers. I demand service and respect from a company. I see too many retailers on this, and other, forums being snide, snipey, sarcastic, and rude. I believe in confidence, but when I instead see arrogance, stating conjecture as fact (or close to fact), and blaming others to raise one's own percieved level of confidence or competence, it is a COMPLETE turn-off. Because of these factors, PowerNotebooks.com is the only reseller who has posted on this thread who would ever, and indeed will, get my business

This is not meant to be sniping at other resellers. It is hopefully meant to end so much of the rude behavior in this forum, which has unfortunately became fairly void of reliable information as of late.

    Thanks,
    Mike Miller

Get the hell over it.... This guy needed help, wasn't getting it and after a day of posts - wouldn't you know he I got a response on the forum before this guy got any assistance... Anyone who takes that out of context doesn't deserve our business or the daily support I provide in this forum. But "Mute1" is grateful to me for drawing attention to a situation that has frustrated him.... and frankly, that's all that matters. I love people who have nothing of value to say, who decide to make one of their few posts in a thread like this.....

I really dont think Justin or eddie said anything bad at all in any of these posts. Justin didnt even get to excited which you do sometimes :) he even said powernotebooks was a good retailer. so i dont understand that comment about being rude are stating conjecture as fact in this forum. they were just helping a guy out. I do know though. No matter how excited or even maybe rude sometimes eddie or justin or anyone really can get in these forums, If you are one of their customers the service you will recieve is second to none. These guys are are doing well for that reason i would never have the time or patience to offer the level of personal support these two guys do. I think they are both important to this forum.

I think the middle aged professional was being the only grown up here. I am only 26 Justin is like 12 or 15 and as far as i know donald is in his 40's judging by the way he talks. Mike no offense but you have to understand something. We are usually here at all hours of day. If someone writes you an email at midnight and ridicules you for your ignorance are you going to bend over or are you going to pound on your chest. Point being we dont treat people like potential customers here. most people here already bought elsewhere for better price or whatever reason. We modderate forums to this day becuase thats how we kicked the door in and got established not becuase every one here has a $$ sign on their head. So if i decide to moon you with my smiley you can take it personal or you can take it as it was intended. If you expect a moderator or vendor on the forums to act like they got a log in the a$$ all the time you came to the wrong place. We are pretty loose here. Why? Becuase most people here are pretty loose and we are blending. :)
