This thread has been most telling, and not because of how it was articulated by the various parties whom contributed. It was telling in respect to the dilema we all as consumers face when we make major purchases, namely, the consequence something could go wrong with the item.

It is of great burden for the consumer to intensely research every facet of their purchase, from dealer, to manufacturer, to scope of warranty especially as it pertains to indemnity. It's also a daunting task, that even when done well, offers no guarantee of a blissful experience because things go wrong. It's during these times that we expect honest and decent proprietors to step up in a timely fashion, and make them right.

Educated consumers understand business owners concentrate on the bottom line (profit margins), we merely hope that meeting your objectives doesn't come at our expense. The well heeled amoung us can absorb losses more effectively, whether it be time, money, or sanity (btw, I have nothing I live off my parents, so I'd probably fit into the cause bodily harm, really pissed category). But most don't fit into that category, and when met by disaster after saving and sacrificing for that dream purchase they've waited for so long, well, quite frankly, they're devastated.

The bottom line may get in the way of some seeing, or feeling that. Regardless, that still seems to be this consumers reality. For Christs sake, someone (responsible parties) step up and make this right (a timely fashion would be good).

Yeah, we should only post between 9-5. If anyone is in this forum for "sales" they're not that smart. I know Eddie thinks a huge amount of sales must come from the forum for us, but realistically I think the numbers are maybe 5% on a good month... no one on the forums who post really buy laptops... either they have and old one and can't afford a new one.... or they thought they were getting a deal and saved a few bucks somewhere else.... or they're already a customer of ours and at which point they usually stop posting and go about their normal lives with their great computer. I know I've been helping out here ever since the mods and admins asked me too... and we set up a member program to help get trolls to start giving some input instead of just sucking in all the information everyone else gives.... and help expand this forum. If my company depending on the people in in this forum who actually buy a laptop, we'd be out of business and it would have nothing to do with me.. it would be because people just aren't buying, period.

... there is a reason other company's reps have stopped posting here..... it doesn't affect sales, so therefore my comments will continue to be "real" and as laid back as anyone else. The only difference is that my actual name and contact information goes at the bottom of my post and anyone who wants to criticize me does so through the anonymity of a forum handle.... it really takes some big ones to be able to hit the submit button when all you have is a hidden ip to identify you. That's why I don't feel a single pain when someone makes a random post and says "well that's why I wouldn't buy from you" .... go to hell... I'm me, not my company and frankly more people than not have been completely please with everything I have done with this company over the years.... and I know at the same time, this forum has grown over the last year or so and I can't help notice the growth in the this forum can be directly related to when they got me in here to help out.... regardless of my posts, membership has jumped, moderators have been added..... people actually come here for news and information on Asus' products and the same people who try to spit on me from behind are the same two-faced people who suck up every word I say to help them figure out what computer they want to buy.

... you can't have two ways.

Your comment brings a fresh sense of reality with it and it's greatly appreciated. The angle you see this is truly the most important to a majority of people and that is, what happens if something goes wrong. All is peaches and cream until you find out the cream was spoiled --- but you may not find that out til later.

Ok you know between me and justin we have no warranty obligation to mute. Just wanted to point that out. He bought elsewhere and it looks like the people there are taking care of him howerver late it may be.
Right. We are not uptite tie wearing, aligator shoe buffing, pocket protector buying, non destructive aluminum laptop case toting, dead pixel picking, creaking laptop complaining, ghost seeing, overclocking lifeless nerds! We are every day people. Now i am going to get dressed and go to work its almost 1pm. Justin i hear PA just raised the legal driver age to 16. Sorry for your loss. :(

Oh I'm totally with you. I've chatted with Justin through email many times and discussed the general client and their lack of apprehension to how you guys operate. I run a tech integration company, www.rseven.com and I'm just glad to see you guys on the board and standing up for your thoughts and being real. I like you guys more after this thread. hmmm...I should probably get dressed and go to work as well...meh

I actually prefer you guys dont act like sales reps on these forums. You act and talk just like the average user here which i appreciate because its less forced and seems more real. And wish i had a need to buy more things from you guys cause im happy to help your bussinesses any way i can. I always point anyone to either you justin or eddie if they are getting a new laptop.

Well, like I said.... the poster wasn't getting satisfaction... he made a post and no less than 12 hours later he got the attention he was looking for. I'm quite surprised in a single day this thread has as many posts and views as it does, especially since the original poster only posted what.. once, twice maybe? Their PM to thank me and to apoligize for starting the whole thing is really what brings it all full circle...... a thread was started to try to get help...... in the end that person got what they needed........ hell with anyone else who butted in to rant their own private BS.... those people couldn't help the guy out and what time they did take, they took to point the finger and blah blah blah.

Now if people only had the same intensity to help this guy to begin with as they did to PM Aurora to open the thread back up so they could do their own ranting........ then this forum might actually be able to do some good.... This is actually one time I'm physically sick over my wasted time in this thread. I missed Boston Legal last because of it and I forgot to TiVo it...... shame on you.... SHAME on alllllllll of you for that!

I should have went to school for theater....

Well, see..... I do have a media center...... multiple ones in fact..... but I can add programs to tivo easily through my ppc phone...... I didn't expect to be out that last last night and then when I was..... I was so tied up and fed up... that I forgot to schedule it... Usually the ones I never miss, I never record... it's the ones that are on during the other shows, or ones I know I'll miss because I'm on the road or at the gym or something.... Just dumb on my part.

This thread has interested me as I have recently purchased a Z70va. So far I have not noticed any ghosting, but was wondering if you guys know what serial numbers were affected by this problem. I received my laptop on Jan. 24. Thanks for you time.

    Dave,

You can give Asus a call on those serials, but for the most part if you know where you bought it, they should know.......... for instance, I know we the affected batches we may have had and haven't had any since November... others still feel that have gotten them up into January..... It depending on what shipment places recieved and for some who go through different distribution lines.... they could have receieved October stock - in January..... it just depends on how the warehouse was stocked.

    Justin,

Thanks for the reply. I purchased mine locally. They normally don't carry the Z70va just the Z71. So I am not sure they would know about the ghosting issue. I will have to see if I can get in touch with Asus. Thanks again.

Dang Justin... I hope you're selling more than 20 units a month! I absolutely chose ASUS and ProPortable for my first notebook based on your contributions to this web site.

My only regret is not pumping up my post count with a bunch of "btt" prior to ordering just so I could qualify for one of your neat discounts.

First I wish to thank AuroraS for reopening the thread.

I hold no ill will towards Powernotebooks.com, Whitebooks.com or Asus really. I just felt like I had a lemon and it left a very bad taste in my mouth. Donald at PN has been the soul of couresty and extremely helpful, Frank at Whitebooks.com was always forth coming with information and understanding of my situation. Asus, well what can I say? They were extremely polite and took the time to call me after I left them a message. In the end what it came down to for me was just a bad general experience with my laptop. Donald @ PN has been in communication via an e-mail he sent me at 8:49pm last night (I only read it just a few minutes ago.)

Juston & Eddie, while I don't often have much to add to the forum due to limited experience with laptops, I do read through them almost daily. You guy are founts of knowledge, some members may have negative things to say regarding behavior or grammer but in the end, I appreciate the quick way you two respond to people here, Lord knows you certainly don't have to.

..... on average we probably get 2 orders from the forum a day. Although I appreciate that my time here does draw in some business - if I were a sales rep and I put in the amount of time here that I do..... But it's almost impossible for it not too as people do come here to find out information on a system and where to buy it. We have a reputation, reviews, rewards and the longevity to back it up. I may help out here to assist friends, but I'd be fired if I were a salesman and spent the time I do here... this may be construed as a waste of company time. Luckily, I'm not a salesman and I'm not about to fire myself.

It really dont matter what serial numbers you got. Chances are the screen you have was already changed. serial numbers starting with 5cn are the only batch of z70va since september that are all ghost free.

You should make a note though...... only shipment from Taiwan that from the factory was completely ghost free.... Like I told you last night, Asus did break into suspect barebones when they came in and swap screens and a lot of dealers may have replaced screen prior to shipping them out to customers..... You don't want to freak out everyone who didn't buy a Z70va in the last couple of weeks thinking they have it....

My posting had nothing to do with an attempt to slam anyone, I simply felt the need to get eveything off my chest in a place/manner that I was certain other people would understand. I felt that after making a high dollar (for me at least) purchase that I not not getting my moneys worth. I mean really, how patient would anybody be after spending almost $2600 only to have their new laptop be unavailable to them because of a manufacturer defect that was a known issue? Some here may have two or three "backup" laptops but I don't. In the end I wasn't after assassinating anyone, I just wanted to be heard.

Yes it's still at Asus as of 8pm Pacific Wednesday night. However there is still some question as to what is going to happen, but I'm shooting for a full refund as at this point I am uncomfortable with sticking with the Z70VA. I know it's a great laptop, but so far that hasn't been my experience and I feel kinda punchdrunk about the thing. I might add that I don't at all feel uncomfortable about my vendor as I'm sure that for them this is more the exception than the rule if Resellerratings.com is any kind of guiding factor for you. I'm no expert, but judging by posts throughout this board, most of the active vendors can be trusted.

Yeah, I picked up this cherry 65' Mustang from a guy for $1500.00. I met him at a Ford Swapmeet and followed him home, when I saw the car I was stunned and seriously considering whether or not this guy was right in the head. The Engine alone alone had about 10K in professional work done to it and it was beautiful. He was selling it because his son took it out on the road and got hit by a car. It shoved the front end over about 6.5 inches and was dogtracking badly. As he was telling me about it he was tearing up. I bought the car and had the damage repaired for an additional $1500.00. Until I had the trouble I had with my laptop, I never really understood why the guy let that car go for as little as he did. Sometimes things just break your heart I guess.
