I have been having some blue screen problems which are indicating a definite hard ware problem with my Hard Drive. I have spoken to ASUS who say it would be about 2 weeks for them to replace a hard drive and send it back. Personally i cannot really do without my notebook for that length of time and i was just begining to think about replacing the Hard Drive myself. Plus i would be upgrading from a 5400rpm to a 7200rpm if i replaced it myself.

Personally i was just thinking this would be easier somewhat less hastle and i would be without my notebook for only a day or two at tops while replacing the hard drive.

What do others think to this suggestion and is there a video anywhere of this procedure either on this notebook model or a similar one.

Incase anybody wants to know i have have "Kernel Stack Inpage Error" BSODs, and i have formated, and replaced RAM and done varies Checkdisks. SO that only really leaves left a Hard Drive controller problem or a Sector problem. Is this a good repair for the problem or should i just ship it back?

There's a lot of info about that error in Google.
Did you try any of the solutions like this?
There's also tools from Seagate to check your HD health.
I found out my HD was defective (not the same problem) using HDTune.
In my case the repair was fast.
Since i was going to be out during the weekend, i decided to send my notebook on a Friday, and on Wednesday morning they delivered at my door :)

If you've done the diagnostic yourself and got a diagnostic error from the HDD utility and can sufficiently explain to them that it works fine with another HDD, it *might* be possible for them to ship you just the HDD as an advance replacement. Some companies allow for this providing you leave a credit card number as backup.

From what I understand, they aim for a turnaround time of < 5 days if you're in NA. Mind you, that's their aim, it's not a guarantee.
