Hello
I keep reading about how people are happy with the performance with their f3jp's. They get good frame rates in World of Warcraft etc.
My own experience has been quite different howerver. WOW with all the settings on minimum gets me 15fps on a good day. Any 3d style game also gets me a lock up after ten to fifteen minutes and ASUS havent been able to help me. Their service agents tell me they think its a software problem and that there is nothing they can do.
Has anyone else had these problems?
I usually have to uninstall the graphics card and reinstall it as after a lockup the machine decides to think the x1700 ATI card is just a standard windows card.
Can anyone help?

It seems you might have a bad GPU.
What operating system are you using? WinXP or Vista32, Vista 64? If the latter please be aware that there are many driver issues.
I suggest:
1. Check for overheating. Do a bit of gaming, and before it locks up exit and check the temperature of the GPU. This might be an overheating problem. If so, you might need to clean the dust inside your notebook, and perhaps add some high-quality thermal paste on the GPU heatsink (be aware though that removing heatsink might void warranty).
2.If it;s not an overheating issue:
2.1. Remove modded drivers and install stock drivers. Try it out.
2.2. If this doesn;t work, do a recovery to factory settings using the recovery partition (F9 at boot) or DVD. Do NOT use modded drivers, but use the provided drivers on the driver CD.
If neither of these steps fixes the problem, RMA the notebook and ask for a GPU replacement. -
What does RMA the notebook mean?
The blokes at Asus (authorised repairers) said that there was nothing wrong with the hardware side of things. I must admit that the right hand side of the notebook does get very warm when playing games.
The notebook is loaded with Vista 32 bit. It is only three months old and there is no dust in it.
The overheating happens with or without modded drivers unfortunately.
Will try re-installing again tho...because im running out of options.
Cheers -
RMA means sending it for service under warranty.
Well there must be something wrong with the hardware, if after a recovery it runs in the same way. Trust me, they don't do extensive testing at the ASUS repair center.
Just explicitly ask for a new GPU the next time, if you can't solve the issue. & possibly tell them to take greater care with the thermal pad/paste.
