Hey guys, I decided to purchase the F3Jp since it has everything I need at a reasonable price and I am debating over the screen resolutions b/c other than that they are identical (besides HD).

The 2 I'm debating over are @ Newegg:

This one has a WXGA+ Screen, 160Gb Harddrive

This one has a WXGA Screen, 120Gb Harddrive
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220142

So, I was wondering if anyone had some benchmarks or info on how games play on both of these models, I've seen a few with the WXGA but they don't have the updated CPU. I haven't been able to locate ones with WXGA+ screens.

I think the WXGA+ screen would be nice for normal computer usage, but I wasn't sure how well games can be handled at this resolution compared to the WXGA one.

Both have T7200 processors, 5400 rpm harddrives, 15.4" screens, and 1GB Ram(I will install Xp and/or add 1gb ram to make 2gb total)

    Thanks in advance :)

The x1700 is barely good enough for native gaming at WXGA+ with pretty effects on in newer games (and not for demanding games that will come out). If you don't want/need to run games with pretty stuff on (or if you don't mind gaming at non-native resolutions), go for the one with WXGA+ screen (you get a higher res screen and a larger HDD).

I understand what your trying to get at, its called scaling. Playing games at non native resolutions to get better FPS, because running games at such high resolutions causes low FPS, because of the graphic card.

I have tested several laptops and in terms of scaling there's absolutely nothing to worry about. I have played games at 1024x768 on the G1, V1, G2 and then bumped up the resolution but dropped the graphics. You should not see any problem or any irregularities.

What I do suggest is consider the native screen resolution that you will feel comfortable using. If that is WXGA then use that, if you can use WXGA+, WSXGA+, then go for that. It all depends on you and your needs.

Graphic designers and programmers like higher resolutions so that they can put more on the sceren or have multiple windows side by side and do their work.

The X1700 is a mid range graphic card, and it does perform well.

I tried dropping Oblivion from native to 1280x800 and it did not look good (it was blurry). Since I wanted HDR, I couldn't turn AA on and it didn't compensate for those blurry edges. On the other hand, I don't like running Oblivion without HDR (it doesn't look that good to me).

Hmm, I personally only did some minor testing in terms of gaming on the A8js screen, I did a lot of video play back on it though.

You mind showing comparison pictures of serveral games running at similar settings and native vs non native resolution.

If you look at my testing in my reviews, some of the games I do test multiple resolutions and infact most of the time I do not use the native resolution. I find no problems at all.

I only have one game installed (oblivion) and no camera available (my parents are on carribean cruise), unless you count my cruddy camera phone. But native vs non-native is highly subjective. Some people say that thet scale down games from 1920x1200 to 1440x900 and see no differance (although they probably raise graphics level to compensate), while I'd rather lower graphics levels and play native as that looks better in my eyes. I also did it on my desktop LCD, so it's not just my lappy screen.

    Thanks for the info guys!

This is actually the 1st laptop I will own so I really don't know I would find "scaled down resolutions" to be too horrible or not.

I'm going to search for some images of scaling if they exist.

Visit a friend that has a LCD-screen. Play a Game that's lower than the Native resolution. If you notice a differance and you're bothered by it, it'll probably be worse on the laptop.
