    Hi link1313

    Indoors it was always 40+

    outdoors it varied between 25 - 40.

occasionally it went to low 20s. but it is very very playable

    On my F3sv-x1, 650/550. Laptopvideo2go drivers, 2GB RAM.

Sure it drops at Extra Quality 16XAA with a lot of people on screen, but do you really need it? 4x gets about 95 fps.

The Company of Heroes Demo is not so promising, but still very playable at high settings:

The 8600m GS struggles with RTS right now, maybe new drivers can help it, mabye.

I keep getting an error in the Lost planet Dx10 demo, and any other games you guys need; Ive got lots of em.

Feel free to add to your main post, mods can delete these once thats done.

I'm liking this very much ^.^, I would ask for Guild Wars results but I think they'll be better than CS anyway so no fear there. If this is the case I don't think the 8700 will be too bad for my gaming needs now, maybe I'll check some 8600 results too, many thanks.

It seems like the modded 158.45 drivers offer a huge improvement over the 101.xx drivers. Do the stock drivers not work as well as the 158.45 drivers? It installs ok for you guys? It messes with the brightness settings on my samsung so I had to reinstall the mobile drivers..

With FEAR, its soft shadows that kill you. Huge kill on performance and it doesnt even look much better. I infact like them off more.

So you can have your shadows, just turn off soft shadows.

Test all 3 and you will see what I mean. From none --> normal shadows is not a big kill, from normal --> soft is huge.

Soft shadows basically doubles the amount of AA the GPU does right? (once for the object, once for its shadow?)

First off, thanks for the screenshots. Now, to comment about some of the things you said.

The Company of Heroes Demo is not so promising, but still very playable at high settings

Was that a DX10 demo? CoH DX10 version doesn't run well IMO. Not to mention it is demanding to begin with as it is.

I keep getting an error in the Lost planet Dx10 demo, and any other games you guys need; Ive got lots of em.

Lost Planet demo is junk. I can't get that one to run either, it likes to crash.

Currently sitting on my week-old Acer TravelMate 5610. What a disappointing first purchase.

On the lowest of settings, I'm stuck at 11-17fps on WoW. Hardly playable.

Not sure why you were getting 11-17 fps in WoW. It's really not that graphic intensive. The f3sv should definitely post better than your Acer.

Heck, the laptop I'm using right now gets 11-17 fps in Kara and it's 6 years old.

Not sure why either. Tried everything, and it all seemed to stem back to the GMA950, which everyone seems to despise. But I couldn't get it any higher than 24 when sitting in Garadar of all places.

So I did an Everest analysis on the Notebook. I looked at the INfo for the GPU, with stock 101.19 drivers. These results are quite disappointing. Other than the fact that it supports Dx10, it is barely comparable to the current Go 7600 or the Ati X1600. My brothers laptop has the Ati X1600 featuring Gddr3 memory. The memory clock is about 300 Mhz faster. It has double the Mpixel fill rate. For some reason everst reports that this GPU does not have Pixel or Vertex Shaders. What is this, and disappointingly, even though RivaTuner reports DDR3 memory on the 8600M GS, it is actually DDR2 with a 128-bit bus, explaining the serious lack of performance. Here is a screenshot of the Everest Report:

Well, it really doesn't have pixel/vertex shaders... It has unified shaders... Are you using the latest version of Everest?

Yes I am using the latest version. I realize it has unified shaders, but I thought that it would list it somewhere or atleast mention the fact that it still does technically have pixel/vertex/geometry shaders, just not on seperate pipelines, but rather sharing a big chunk of resources. I will try to update the drivers to 150 or 160 drivers, and hope for better results.

Three things that are really keeping this card down are DDR2 memory, 128-bit Bus artcheticure, and underclocking by Asus/Nvidia in the F3sv. When Nvidia finally releases drivers that can fully harness the potential of Dx10 and the 8600M line I think we might see an improvement. Currently it is quite disappointing. It is no better than the 8400M GT, and performs worse than the Ati X1600 and older high-end version of the Geforce go 7600. I am really hoping for some better luck with this card in the future, so it can actually live up to its status as a mid-range card.

Hey Andy I can't even get it to run on High. I have to set mine everything to low. And I still onyl get about 15 FPS. What's going on I am using the latest 165.01 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. Should I not be able to run it on high. This game is retarted. I can only run it on low. Otherwise it says "Performance bla bla bla...PLease revise the system settings". WTF it shouldnt be doing this!

you werent even able to select the 'high' setting? I am not sure about the 165 drivers. I use the 158 ones and works brilliant! Its so good that I am scared changing it.

though 8.34 isnt much, atleast it plays! and it should. you got 1GB or 2GB RAM?

2 Gb of Ram. Using a total of 1 GB VRAM. I will try the 158.45 drivers today and see what happens. I can select the high settings. It starts playing, and quite well, getting around 15 fps. I do not know if that is good for high on with shadows or not. Then in the middle of the game I get that stupid message popping up and pausing the game every 30 seconds.
