    Sounds like: ACPI driver problems.

Did you install the ACPI drivers? (ATK*** from the driver CD or support.asus.com).

Those are the utilities for hotkeys, and the screen feedback when you press buttons. You also need the drivers themselves.

    To E.B.E

hey, i fixed the problem myself. Is the master password in BIOS costing the problem. Dont know why, I clear out the password, restart the computer and it work no shutdown during restart. so i guess i need to clear out bios password first then reinstall windows...

Weird solution. Glad it's fixed, anyway.

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, i somehow overlooked this thread. The ATK drivers are called something like ATK100, or ATK Driver and Utility, or just ATK Vista or ATK XP, on support.asus.com.

well, is not the ATK problem, beside vista can auto find the ATK drivers well except the utility and the finger print utility.

it is so weird that a password can cost a big problem.

I didn't consider the Vista default driver. But even if it finds one, I would think it's a better idea to use the ASUS one. They are probably better tailored to the notebook than the default drivers. If they don't quite fit, they can cause problems like not shutting down properly.

But if you solved your problem, no need to do anything. If you are using the default ATK driver, maybe just keep an eye on fan speeds, CPU temps etc. to make sure it's working properly.
