just around a month or so ago my F3Sv (about a year old) started makin a lot of noise from the fan and the bottom right part of the notebook is gettin really hot with just 20 mins of use....I had the same problem with my old W3 and it ended up being some stuff clogged in the cooling fan. can anyone help/give any suggestions? Im not around an ASUS repair center so....
cheers

probably something similar...just open it up and clean it out my z96j did the exact same thing (except my performance ate **** also) but I just decided to get the g50 instead of fixiing it

how should i open up my f3/how to clean it properly

You can start by removing the bottom panels, and possibly also the keyboard (see Info Booth/Disassembly guides / any guide there, keyboard removal is pretty standard on ASUS). See if that gives you access to the fans.
If so, then unscrew the fan, lift it up, and clean the dust that has probably clogged the heatsink fins (the air is pushed by the fan, through between these fins, cooling them, towards the outside of the notebook). Clean the fan blades.
If you don't have access by following steps above, then try looking for a disassembly manual for your particular model.
If that fails as well, clean it with compressed air.
(Do I have a deja-vu or did I already post this a few minutes ago?Oh yeah I did, here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3852759#post3852759 )

thx for the suggestion EBE, i've tried opening the lower plastic piece (the one where u can access the RAM and the top of the cooling fan). Should I go further and open up the complete bottom of the laptop?

If it's all behind easy-access panels, yeah, remove all the panels and see if you can reach the fan. Next, the keyboard.

I have the French version replaced by ASUS 12 weeks ago.(Still palmtop crack free).
F3SV-AP250C
The fan is behind bottom panel, fan unit has 6 screws, however this fan is also the heatsink for the graphics chip and if you remove the fan, then the paste on the graphics chip is disturbed / removed also. So when you reassemble you will most probably need to reapply some new paste ie heat sink paste back onto the graphics chip.
A little bottle of heat sink or a paste costs about £3-£4. Im going to get some Zalman thermal grease and redo mine soon.

Im also using a Zalman notebook cooler zm1000?, and the right side still gets warm as opposed to the left side which is stone cold for the hard drive.
Mines the nvidia 8600m and the chips do get hot anyway.
Nvidia explained that all these chips and others from last year or 2 are faulty manufactured, hence the reason for the fan on all the time. -
Wait a minute if you remove the heatsink doesn't that break "warranty void" seals? If so, then don't do it.
Can't you access the fan from under the keyboard? -
I took this pic a few mins ago. F3SV-AP250C
The whole fan assembly doesnt need to be removed, you can just take the 3 screws out to clean the crap out the fan. 3 Screws Marked with X.
edited;Im not going to redo the CPU with new paste just yet, just the GPU as the paste they use is poor/hence hot GPU.
The only warranty stickers are on the Intel CPU heatsink holder. Anyway i sent my last laptop back without warranty sticker on (due to A-Novo UK butchering it) and nobody said ziltch.
It just goes to show that the core 2 duos are not a very hot chip unlike the old ones from 3 years ago, as they were even covered with a fan unlike the ones now, just sitting merrily in the middle of the board.Attached Files:

Yes, that's precisely what I meant, that fan can be removed without touching the heatsink. And yeah, they're usually pretty relaxed about the warranty void stickers, but it's always better to make sure.
Thanks for the help, Asusteve.
