Is there a noticable difference between the screen sizes. because the N8's gpu seems to be a hell of alot faster and even has an lcd screen. Input?

    You mean LED

and the N80 is REALLY big for a 14 in...
It's actually about the size of a 15.4 in laptop... but with a 14in screen

There is probably isn't much of a noticeable difference in screen size between a 13" and a 14", but the chassis between the two are quite noticeable. The LED screen in the N series also makes it more desirable for more consumers; LEDs usually provide better power efficiency and brightness.
The N80/N81 series are much better in terms of GPU power, plus, the N series uses non-conductive vacuum metallization (NCVM) films which being of non-conductive nature, can also avoid the interference of radio frequency (RF) signals such as Wi-Fi compared to other metallization methods such as aluminum. It also better protects the notebook as NCVM also stands up to the knocks and bumps of day-to-day computing while on the move.

No way, the M860TU is a gigantic 15.4" notebook. The N81 isn't nearly as big.

Yea the N81 is a "14" laptop stuck in a 15.4" body, performs very well, but only a 14" in name.

To put it in perspective, here's a size list of some 14" notebooks:

    Asus N81: 14.52" x 10.52" x 1.24 x 1.42"
    Acer TravelMate 6493: 13.3" x 9.6" x 1.6"
    Fujitsu LifeBook S7210: 13.1" x 9.5" x 1.5"
    Lenovo T400: 13.2" x 9.4" x 1.3"
    HP EliteBook 6930p: 13.03" x 9.57" x 1.23"
    Sony Viao CS series: 13.2" x 9.6" x 1.57"
    Toshiba Tecra R10: 13.3 " x 9.9 " x 1.2 "
    Satellite Pro S300M: 13.3" x 9.6" x 1.5"
    Dell Inspiron 1420: 13.1" x 9.6" x 1.5"

In other words, the N81 series rivals the size of most 15" notebooks.

I'm debating between the N80 vs the F6Ve so this is an interesting thread.

Newegg shows the N81 with a normal 13.3-13.5" width which is standard for a 14.1" lcd notebook.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220510

If the chassis is truly close to that of a 15.4" notebook it's completely out of the equation.

As a matter a fact, this thread here suggests that it is closer to 13.5" in width?

I need to place an order to get a notebook by this weekend pretty much as I'm going to be out of town and would HATE not to have something beefier than my netbook to play around with.

I've been looking around and Newegg says
    Physical spec
    Dimensions 13.46" x 10.08" x 1.4-1.42"
    Weight 5.51 lbs.

    While Xotic says

    Size & Weight

    * 5.2lbs with 6-cell battery
    * 14.52" x 10.52" x 1.24 x 1" - 1.42" (W x D x H)

GenTechPc has the dimensions listed as
    14.52" x 10.52" x 1.24 x 1"- 1.42" as well as being 5.2 LBS.
I have to say visit there website they have some game demos for this laptop that are awesome.
I don't know of any other re-seller that has actual footage of games being played, that really helps to see what it's actually capable of + there customer service is topnotch.

    The review here at NBR says: 13.5 x 10.1 x 1.6"

Logically the N81Vp should be slightly "wider" (though possibly "shorter") than the average 14.1" due to the 16:9 screen ratio, shouldn't it? Does anyone have measuring tape? :D

I went out to Best Buy to play around with this laptop:

    http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/asus-x83vm-x1-core/4505-3121_7-33361040.html .

Apparently this is a similar chassis to the N80 (albeit with REALLY cheap plastics). In any event, it's way too big for my purposes.

I ended going with a Studio XPS M1340. It's a huge drop off in graphics but it's MORE than enough to play World of Warcraft which is the only thing that interests me anyways. That being said, there is a 15% discount coupon from Dell's Outlet. I ended up getting a stacked machined for 649+tax. WAY too good of a deal for me to walk away from.
