I am purchasing a new laptop in the 13.3"-14.1" screen size. I am trying to do research on this Asus f6v, but cannot find any reviews or comments or anything on this model. Is it a bad laptop or something?
I was also looking at the Asus N80vn, both these models seem to have HDMI, but I am guessing the f6v would be a lighter laptop(not a big deal)

Any thoughts or comments on the f6v? Also any ideas on battery life for either model, I cant seem to find that information.

    Hi,
I bought the F6V-X1 from newegg 3 weeks ago. I wrote a bit about this computer in this forum. search a bit and you should find it. Altogether I really can recommend this computer. I don't understand why people always buy the 15" bricks. I want a portable computer that has a decent battery life and weight. The F6v fullfills that. It weighs 4.4 lbs and the battery life is around 2hours 45 minutes under normal use. The screen is bright and the dedicated graphics card is for my purposes sufficient. I don't play games on my laptop, eventhough you probably could. The F6v has also HDMI. To choose the right computer you have to ask yourself what is the main purpose: gaming, working, internet, portability, desktop replacement etc..

Do a search in the main forum search box at top of page for "F6v" to get a list of threads discussing various topics on this model. You can also start with this thread here. As I recall, battery life is generally ~2.5 hours depending on usage on the -v model, up to 3hr on the -A model.

The F6 isn't a hugely popular model around here, so there isn't the usual huge amount of info you'll find on others....

    That's a pity.
It looks to be a nice bit of kit.

Searching for it here hasn't come up with much...

Hi, I was looking for a new laptop for a new job. I find the F6V-X1 for a good price and decied to purchase it, the price 845€ for a P8400 with 4 GB and 320 GB seen a good price.

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 with out many issues, and have been working for a month with it I have to say that is a good machine for the price.

The screen quality is average, the battery life is justs 2 and a half hours. I try to configure every trick to increase the battery life, but not luck.

The build quality is low, perhaps I used to use Apple machines and found the quality a little below but, not problem at all with the keyboard and the rest.

The best, the connectivity, eSATA, HDMI, 3 USB enought for me.

I could not found a machine with the same expect for lest than 1100 €, and now I have the Asus F6V and a Toshiba NB100 for the same.

I agree the F6V doesn't look elegant and nice like an apple or sony vaio but if you get a computer for $1000 with this great specs you have to compromise.
The plastic looks a bit cheap but at least it is black and has almost no glossy plastic. When I look at most of the laptops today with weird paintings on the lid or glossy plastic all over I prefer this reduced design. The screen is above average I think. It is very sharp and colorful and the brightness is very high. The reflexions on the screen are not as bad as with my old Sony Vaio or the new line of apple notebooks.

Be careful not to confuse build quality with looks. They are both important, but they are different things. :)

Clearly, the F series are not going to shine in the build quality department, since they are budget series notebooks; but the F8, for instance, has held up quite well. (There are some bad apples too, like the F3 with its palmrest corner crack problem.)
