I'll say it'll be out when October rolls around.

They forgot to mention that it also has a 1 year accidental warranty :)

I don't see any HDMI listed on that web page. Is it possible that it will have HDMI out?

Hey cori, what is that other notebook you have in your attached pics?

Nope, its a more classy A8. The W3 is an a totally different class, unfortunately.

It's listed as DVI, so I don't think it'll have HDMI. Though until its been confirmed once its landed in North American soil, its in the air.

Vivek: No idea. 'x80h' is its codename. It looks like a modified A8 series...

Must be pretty heavily modified then, since it appears a LOT thinner. Its got a pretty interesting finish as well, are those actual dots on the plastic, or is it just the paint finish like that?

    Got any other shots?

In the first picture you have lines on the cover as seen in excaliberpc.com and silver lining the keyboard. In the other two pictures you have the dotted top and dotted keyboard lining. Which one will it be? Hopefully it'll look more like the first pic.

It's the first one. I'll remove the second and third one and attach it elsewhere.

Can we still reinstate the group buys and whatnot to get discounts?

Not sure, I think we would need to ask MilestonePC about that. Unfortunately, Danny is having some personal issues right now, so hes being kinda unresponsive, or so I have heard.

From what happened with the V2s group buy, I think it will be more along the lines of MPC giving a special to the first 'x' preorders. After that, the F8s could be preordered without the additional bonuses.

There is at least one thread that show why this approach was chosen vs. a group buy (mainly, non-enforcability of someone's desire to participate in the group buy process, removing vendor guaranty of sales revenue).

    Regards,

    Z.

I've learned a lot here over the past three months or so--but I'm still very much a lightweight in the laptop knowledge category. Recently I've been guided toward the V2S-A1 and have one on order now. I'm wondering what, besides price, would be a good reason to go for the F8 over the V2S. I'm NOT a gamer, but am a big multitasker, haven't used Vista yet, and rely on my computer for my livelihood. Thanks!

I was at a local computer shop, and they had F8 and U3 posters, but there wasn't a model or in stock haha. I did, however, play with the U1f and VXS2. Sweet little wallet breakers :)

Besides the 8600GT I honestly see little benefits of going with the F8, except the 'styling'.

And the 8600GT is about graphics, right? So if I'm not doing gaming, then I'm better off with the V2S? Because the F8 is cheaper. What do I gain with the V2S, then? Is it more solidly built, or is the styling better, or is it lighter? The F8 also appears to have the Lightscribe feature whereas the V2S does not. Thanks

For the V2, its built better and its lighter, but the battery life sucks just as badly (you do get an additional 9 cell battery in the package though, so thats a plus, kinda), the GPU is a lot worse (it gives performance around the 8400GS range), and its more expensive. At the same price, I would rather have a MacBook Pro (bigger screen, not much heavier [like 0.2lbs], better battery life, better screen, better styling, triple boot, etc...Its in a different world) or a Sony SZ680 (3.7lbs - thats a full 1.5lbs less, approximately the same gpu performance plus you get the hybrid system with swappable GMA graphics for better battery life, better screen, etc).

thanks, Vivek. My problem is I can't do a Mac due to some proprietary software I HAVE to use. And I'm not savvy enough to do a BootCamp or other switching thing with the operating sys. Also, the SZ is 13.3 inches....kinda too small for an "everything" computer. One I'll do occasional desktop publishing on. Also, the V2S package I ordered does not have the double battery in the package. The 9-cell is extra.

    Thanks for your reply.

I just meant with the power button location.
