This decision is so difficult...please help! (Both are the same price)

F8SA is the one from newegg with the ATI HD2600 gpu vs. 8400gs in the HP.

So the Asus is a handsdown winner in that department.

But, the processor is the 9300 in the HP vs. the 7500 in the Asus.

Plus, the HP has 250gb HD, but that's all it has over the Asus.

Ram is no consideration as I have 4gb to put in already.

    Which machine is superior?

Do you do require gaming? Then take the stronger GPU.

Do you run CPU-intensive tasks (no gaming)? Then take the stronger CPU (perhaps). The CPU speed differences will be minor so if there is any other good reason to prefer the ASUS then I'd recommend it.

Like EBE said... the processor speed difference is not nearly as significant as the difference between the 8400 and 8600.

Also, what are the RPMs of both HDs?

I just sold my dv2700t a few days ago - and used the money to pay towards an F8SA-X2 from NewEgg. Nvidia 8400 graphics on dv2700t are middlin' - but the deal-breaker was the fact that the dvx700's will not properly run XP. If there is a dual-boot - Vista and XP - in your future then you may want to scuttle plans for a dv2700...

Agreed with the 1st point (the RPM won't make a really major real-life difference I think, current 5400RPM drives are pretty fast).

I also agree you should fill in the FAQ. People will give useful suggestions, perhaps about machines that you never heard about but they are better for you.
