Recently purchased an Intel SSD for use with this computer since my drive just died. Everything installs fine with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, but there will be times when the hard drive light will simply stay on/constant, and you can't do anything with the computer. The cursor will show the blue circle indicating that its thinking, but clicking on open widows or the start button does nothing. Seems like the SSD is moving stuff around on it. Has anyone installed a SSD and experienced something like this? Maybe I'm missing a program, or is this the way SSD's behave?

SSDs are not supposed to pause and think, it defeats the purpose of having an SSD. :)

Have you ran any firmware updates on your Intel SSD before installing it?

Try to download the Tool box and grab the latest firmware update and see if that helps.
Also, what is it scoring in the Windows Experience Index? If it is 7.2-7.9 you should theoretically be fine but if it is any lower (6.0, 5.0, etc.) you may want to get an RMA and get it replaced.

Thanks for the suggestions Heihachi. I do have the Intel Toolbox installed and have the latest firmware. Windows Experience Index is a 7.7 which is why it's odd for the SSD to behave this way. I'll continue to Google stuff and report back if I figure out a solution.

Seems like I'm not the only one with a frozen SSD for brief moments of time. Lots of talk about enabling TRIM and NCQ... and ensuring the SSD is in AHCI mode... this might take some trial and error...

    After trying the following:

    • Disabling LPM
      Ensuring TRIM is enabled
Ensuring AHCI is enabled and shows as "Enhanced" in the BIOS
      Removing hard drive password
Attempting to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) (failed, not compatible for F8SN chipset)

the installation of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager, which is an "older" version of Intel's RST, worked like a charm. The computer is super fast now. Boot time takes only 10 seconds to the ASUS SmartLogon Screen. Sleep, resume, and loading of programs are just super quick. Plus, no more hard drive noise, just a bit of the fan every once in a while. Feels like brand new! But the best part, no more freezing!

I reinstalled everything using the F8Sv Windows 7 64-bit drivers, and everything is working superb. I can't believe I've been using this computer for 4 years now, and its been like a champ ever since.

I have purchased a newer version of that computer (F8Va) in Aug. 2008 and it is still running perfect! F8 series was the golden series of this brand.
