    Hey all,
Tried doing a search in various forms for this topic, but couldn't find anything in this forum about it (probably because this laptop is so new)

So anywho, I just got myself the F8SV-A1 (being shipped as we speak), and I'm wondering, since I'm going to partly use it for gaming, is it going to be possible for me to do a dual boot with Vista and XP on it? Has ASUS mentioned anything about it?

I'm very much wondering since I know on Gentech, they have the option to get Windows XP instead of Vista (dunno if this is just default options and a minor error, or if it's fully possible and they'll be able to do it)

Just trying to figure out if I should go get me another copy of XP or not :)

    Cheers all!

It's not a error, XP can be install on F8SV, you can simply change the SATA mode from Enhance to Compatible in BIOS or slipstream the SATA driver into XP CD to install.

the only thing will not work on XP is the Turbo Memory.

I see in another topic you already have xp installed..... did you set it up for dual booting? or did you over write the installation?

I thought you couldnt dual boot with recovery disc....... and if you installed over a previous installation (over vista), is it true that when reinstalling vista from a recovery disc, asus doesnt fully give you all the drivers (ive heard errors about turbo memory, not really sure)....... AND (again) if you are dual booting with vista still intact, how did you install an old OS over a new one?

Fedex says my f8sv is coming today, dual booting is my first objective.

What I did was I just delete the Vista OS partition and install a fresh copy of XP, I haven't try dual boot yet.

As long as you have XP SP2 you should have no issues.

there are guides on how to slipstream SP2 onto an older XP disk if you need too. Its worth doing for sure if you have too it will save you alot of updating every time you end up installing XP again.

And I wonder about the 8600M gt driver. When can I find this?
And I think the 8600 is underclocked on the Asus F8, how can I make sure I'm not going to cause any damage?

I tryed the xp/vista dualboot install. Vista was installed on de C:.
I changed the SATA mode from Enhance to Compatible in BIOS. Then i could boot and start XP instalation. I installed it on the D partition.
After installation the system always boot on XP. I used VistaBootPRO_3.3.0.exe to install a boot menu to be able to select xp or vista at start.
For the drivers i used the driver from the Asus G2S on this site : croftophile

    an other solution

touslesdrivers.com have a plugin that autodetect your system and gives the appropriate link for drivers.

Windows XP is now working on my système. The 8600M GT is well managed. Some function keys are not working so does the fingerprint reader. but the rest works well.

You can find utilities for XP there

I know there is a Windows XP driver for the fingerprint reader... I'll look for that.

EDIT: I haven't tried yet but I think I 've found a web page with XP drivers links for the F8sv, including for the fingerprint reader:

Edit: i still have one unknown device "ACPI\ITE8707\4&258F370F&0" but i dont know what it is

Edit2: It seams to be the infrared but i did not find any xp driver for it yet

It's probably your infrared (IR) port.

    WOW WOW WOW,
I have been fusing arround for like 3 hours. XP cd boot up just would find my HDD.
Never thought it was a SATA driver issue.
    Now i got some questions:

    1. Does SP3 have the SATA driver in it? ie if i get a XP disk with SP3 embeded, would my system "see" my SATA hd during boot up?
    2. Is this ENHANCE/Compatible option available for all recent ASUS laptops? Specifically for my F3SA? (i check it tongiht, but just wanted to know early :D )
    3. Would this work with a eSATA HDD?

    Does VistaBootPRO_3.3.0 work with eSATA?
