Hey all,
I've been having a rather strange problem lately. Ever since New Year's, my laptop's temperatures have been all over the place and during the last week I have experienced some random shutdowns (roughly once per 24 hour use).
Without a laptop cooler, the temperatures at idle resemble that of load:
CPU: ~30-40
HDD: 50
GPU: 70
However, with a laptop cooler they are much cooler (pics attached), although the reading of 0C for my CPU worries me...
CPU: 0-10?!!? (maybe a software error?)
HDD: 31
GPU: 48-55
In Ubuntu the temperatures are a bit less extreme:
Temps with cooler:
CPU: 17 C
HDD: 34 C
GPU: 53 C
Temps without a cooler:
CPU: 35 C
HDD: 52 C
GPU: 70 C
With regards to the random shutdowns, here are some notes:
-Happens in both Ubuntu and Windows XP (so probably is a hardware or BIOS problem)
-Happens with or without an external screen
-Never has happened while gaming, only while doing light web-surfing
-The fan is usually quiet the entire time until a few seconds before shutdown, when it goes berserk. <--I think this may be pretty important
I'll add what I find later, and am about to upgrade the BIOS. Maybe this will fix my problem? I had made a thread in the Linux forum about the temperatures, but decided to post here once the shutdowns started occurring since it seems like a hardware problem.
Thanks in advance for any help (hopefully there are enough clues for you computer sleuths)!

It's most likely a software related error readings. Try use EVEREST and speedfan to confirm your readings.

EVEREST reports:
CPU: 11-19 (hovers btwn 11-14) <--still low because I remember when I first got it, after undervolting it would go at lowest ~25-28
HDD: 29
GPU: 57
Any input on the shutdown problem? Do you think its related to the fact that the laptop without the cooler gets really hot?
Thanks!
Edit: After updating the BIOS, the CPU temperatures are now reporting much more reasonable results: ~30-35C. Perhaps this will fix the random shutdowns/lack of fan I've been noticing.
Edit 2: This actually fixed my high GPU temperature problem (80C at stock clocks down to 72C). I think that because the laptop was detecting such a low CPU temp, the fans were never activated (I'm actually hearing the laptop fans now) and so the system would never cool itself down. (Hopefully edit 3 will be: 'its been a week and no random shut downs!') -
I am using F8Va. My usual temperatures are usually :
CPU at loads : 30-40C
GPU under minimal load : ~40C
I think that is normal considering the ambient temp is around ~20C.
I don't think you need to worry about too much. CPU can work up to 80-90C and GPU the same.
