Looking at either laptop. Can't locate XP drivers for either and need to be able to run XP for my job. Vista is NOT an option. Will either laptop run XP? Or will I need to get a Dell?

Both models should run XP, but you'll probably have to use drivers from earlier F8 models or similar to make it work.

I'd suggest searching for your issue in the forum, it's been discussed a great deal over the past 12 months and you should be able to find what you need. Another good place to start is the F8 Owner's Lounge thread.

Given your employer IT compatibility requirement, I would strongly suggest you find the info you need prior to placing an F8 order.

Since I'm an independent contractor there is no IT department. Asus was less than helpful since no one there could answer if XP drivers were available.

Asus isn't releasing XP drivers for new model systems anymore, now that MS has switched over to Vista. Still, because much of Asus' hardware remains the same now in their new systems as pre-Vista, many older drivers will still work perfectly well and allow XP install on new notebooks.... you just have to do the work and try to find which ones will be the correct ones for your particular notebook :). That's why I suggested you try a forum search and/or reading through the F8 Lounge thread to see if anyone there has posted on this topic for the system you're considering purchasing.

Asus is still updating XP drivers for some older production models, but they've essentially ceased driver updates for new notebook models with what (in their world) is an outdated, out-of-production OS much like manufacturers ceased driver support for ME/Win98 on existing/new models after XP came out.
