I have a slightly dark patch at the lower right side of the screen. I'm not sure if it is an uneven backlight or dead pixels. That small area just seems darker than the rest of the screen. Any input?

if you think it's defective call the store you bought it from to see if they can replace your unit or call asus.

How would I know it's defective? I can't really see anything when I get close but at a normal viewing distance it does seem to appear slightly dark on a white screen.

Dark patches are different to dead pixels. I wouldn't be too worried if your screen is similar to the Sony laptop you have linked in the post above. Like others said, it's a common issue on many notebook lcd screens.

Thank you all for the help!

Is this imperfection allowable for Asus exchange or should I just ignore it?

I guess you did not see the post just before yours:

I just want to let everyone know who has a problem like me that Asus will repair your screen if you are still under warranty.

I called Asus Support and they emailed me instructions/Fedex shipping tag. I took my laptop to Fedex and it was easily sent off (they even helped me pack it though I had to pay for the notebook box). The next day the laptop was already there and then it was fixed/ready for shipping that same day. Now, I have the laptop back and the problem is fixed. They just replaced the ColorShine LCD. I'm not happy that a 2 month laptop would encounter such imperfections, but Asus Support was excellent. Don't hesitate to use it!
