I'm looking at picking up the F9Dc, but unfortunately NewEgg doesn't do returns and I need the credit account, so before I drop a large on it I was wondering if anyone here had it or knew anything about it.

I'm curious if the screen has the same grainy/sparkling quality and bad viewing angles that I know the A8Jm's screen did (which was my chief complaint with that laptop). I'm not expecting something like an LED backlit screen, just something that's actually enjoyable to look at where I don't have to crane my neck at exactly the right angle to view the screen.

Also, how bad is the lid wobble?

And finally, what's the battery life like? Two to three hours, I figure?

    Hey Pulp.

Like you, I'm curiously interested in the F9Dc, especially with the $999 price tag. Though I have to note it'll be yet another ASUS consumer model, one I can't really be happy about but the specs look sweet for the price tag.

I can't say the screen will be good nor bad, but I don't think it'll be as bad as the A8, like most 14" screens, sucked hard.

As for battery life, I honestly would not expect more then 2 hours, considering ASUS's plague of battery life.

I'd say 2.5 hours out of the 6 cell. Not much more than that, I think.

And not all 14" screens suck...For example, the screen on the VAIO FJ (and now the CR) was excellent, when it wasn't broken. I have seen plenty of complaints about 14" screens, so maybe I got lucky, or maybe I didn't notice it. Though I do notice the graininess on my Vostro screen (one of three reasons its going back to Dell).

The F9Dc is on my shortlist of replacement machines, due mainly to its specs and size at such a low price. I trust that quality won't suck, since its supposed to be an Asus, though a consumer one.
