Noticed that these are now up on newegg for 1300. Seems like a good deal, yet its not that much different than the w7j. same weight, about the same size, and very similar specs. Anyone got one? Why did you buy it instead of the w7j, and what do you think of it?

I think W series are Asus higher models meaning they are built a little better and I think W7J has a webcame also. But i don't know...F series is a lower model

I think MilestonePC is working on a review of this model.

Personally speaking, there is nothing on this notebook to make it worth it over the similarly sized and priced W7J. The W7 is more powerful, has a larger screen, and has better build quality with carbon fiber construction. The extra $200 (theres often discounts on the W7, so closer to $100) is more than worth it for the carbon fiber build alone, not to mention the better graphics and larger screen.

the f9 just came out recently...in the past couple of months. the w7j has a stronger gpu (7400go is noticeably better than the 7300go), and is built out of carbon fiber vs. plastic. plus, the w7j is almost the same weight but you get more screen. now, the w7j is going for $1399, and i believe btotech has a discount on it. another thing to think about is that the f9 might not have any options for an extended battery.

If only the W7J came standard with the T7200 and a rotating webcam.

I hope the Santa Rosa refresh of the W7 comes with both a better processor (T7300) and the webcam. ;)

The 7400 is noticeably faster than the 7300??? Do you have any 3dmark scores? i thought they were about the same. Also, the battery on the f7j sticks out quite a bit, whereas the w7j doesn't protrude at all. The F9J is "slightly" thinner though. Are you sure the F9J isnt carbon fiber?

    lg c1 w/ 7300: 1392

    asus w7j with 7400: 1980

f and a series are the "budget" series that are made of plastic.

Not Asus strongest contenders =P. I like the F9 out of all of them though. But in that price range it behooves the Asus buyer to make the jump to the 1400-1500 dollar range W series. It is definitely worth it!

have gone from wanting the a8 to the f3 and then onto the f9j..... and now, because of this thread, i'm leaing towards the w7...

although the w7j is clearly better built, has a better vid card, it does lack a couple features that the f9j has: swivel cam, and memory up to 2 gb.... it's really kind of weak that the w7 can't do more than 1536MB...

i live in taiwan so i will take a closer look and talk to the guys (i can speak relatively good chinese).... keep you posted.....

i think no matter what, i iwll wait t acouple months to buy.... prices should be lower by then... right now, the f9j with 2 gb ram is around $1400US ($46000TWD)...

ok, have a good day :)

My go7300 gets ~1500 points in 3DMark05, the go 7400 gets ~2000 points.

edit: just saw ejl had posted some 3dmarks 2!

good to get perspective anyway. :)
plus, your score will probably be a better indicator considering the c1 uses a ulv processor.

The F9J has been only released in some eastern countries like Iran (AFAIK), so you have to wait for it to be released in Other countries to get an answer.

I have bought this laptop just yesterday. I can't do a review at this time but it's quite nice. Mine was also upgraded to 2gb for free.
I bought it for 1350 CANADIAN, with the 2gb ram included. Quite a deal. For that price, I didn't want to go with the w7j.

    1350 sounds good...

i think, since i don't NEED to play games, that the f9f (with intel graphics and no fingerprint and only core duo t2250) is a better choice cuz it's so much cheaper. only around 1000 us here in taiwan. i will go to the huge computer trade show this weekend in taipei (computex). hoping to get a sweet deal there.......
