Hi guys,
I seem to have a strange problem with my F9s. Here it goes:
The machine doesnt power on with a single press @ power button. I would need to hold the power button for atleast 10 to 12 seconds before the machine powers on.
Could someone help me resove this issue.
Thanks,
Arun

That is really strange, first time I've heard of such a fault.
Try to reset the BIOS to defaults (first from the menus, and then using the > o < pinhole on the notebook's belly -- although I believe the two options do the same thing).
Of course it can also be a hardware fault (some capacitor going wild might account for the long time you need to press the button) in which case this idea wouldn't help.
Another wild idea, does it do the same thing if it's plugged in and without battery; and on battery without being plugged in? -
I place a fair bit on the possibility of a capacitor malfunctioning, I think you should take it to support and get it looked at.

my F9s died yesterday. what happened was:
i. On switching on the power button, i can hear the asus logo sound but there is no display
ii. The power light is on.
iii. The harddisk light flickers for sometime and then stops.
It looks like the machine is on, but there is no display and no other lights are on.
I have given the machine to RMA. They assured that they would have it repaired.
I bought it 01/05/2008 and i still have good 9-10 months of warrenty.
I wanted to know if they would replace the machine if it is beyond repair?
Thanks Guys, Arun -
But most "dead computer" errors are fixable by replacing the motherboard + other internals -- and they usually have spares
From your description, it is possible this is a dead GPU. Although the power button lag remains really weird. -
EBE, I talked with the RMA guys once again today. They said they would repair it some how or the other. They were soo confident. I guess these guys were talking about either replacing the motherboard / GPU or even a fried RAM.
But if nothing works out, i am sure they do not have a better configuration system as Asus sells only low end notebooks in India. I have my doubts if they even have a new replacement MB/GPU for my system.
, these service guys have asked me to call in tomorrow for the update.
This system was my wife's which she used for personal work. She is already cursing me no mistake of mine. The system just broke. I tried to explain to her that these sort of things happen frequently.
As for the power button lag, i guess they replace the MB, this issue might be resolved. I would keep you guys posted with regard to the update on the F9s repairs.
Thanks,
Arun
