Recently, by accidently changing the processor state to a lower level and thus having the fan come on later, I came to realize just how hot the GPU runs (stuttering begins at maintained 96-97c). After much searching I have found no solution to controlling the fan speed to save the poor GPU.

Has there been any progress on this subject?
    Any working fan controllers?
I was considering overclocking as a way to make the CPU hotter and thus activate the fans sooner as my CPU only runs at about 40-50c and the GPU at 93-96c. Once the fan in on full power things stay "reasonably" cool. Thoughts? Comments? I don't want to do anything to void the warrenty yet (thermal paste ect)

Could you undo the changes you made on your processor state?

Your Power4Gear profile influences when the fans turn on and when they turn on full blast. When it's set to Quiet Office, I've found that it doesn't kick on until something like 80C (CPU) on my V1J. Meanwhile, High Performance will make it kick on at around 65C (CPU).

97C is not something you'd want on your PC. You'd eventually get warped board syndrome like the XBox360 Xenon (older) units. If you had a desktop GPU, it would be running full blast at that point (I think most desktop GPUs have a threshold of around 70C before they kick up the speed of the fan (unless you have a good aftermarket cooling solution OR you have one of those ones that actually came with one :) )

I believe the GPU has been throttling around 95-96 since I got it, but I only had the software to accurately check last week.

I changed back all the Power4Gear stats so the fan is more active now and all games run as they did before. However, realizing that "normal" is 96c I figure something must be done. I know I have heard of people running over 100c but since I can visually see the difference (stuttering) when temp peaks over 97c I know holding at 95-96 can't be good.

I don't mind excessive noise from the fan, so anything to make it activate sooner would be fine with me. As for overclocking the CPU to make it hotter and thus activate the fan more often, any ideas?

If I have to send it for warrenty work thats fine, but from what I have read ASUS considers mid 90's to be just fine and therefore would do nothing for me.

You only get temperatures around 95/96 cause the driver you have won't permit the graphic card to reach higher temps ... as a consequence stutter occurs . You can use the sleep fix , just put your pc to sleep or hibernate and that does the trick ... with this you will probably hit the 105º . Note that for the sleepfix to work you need a old driver 177.41 works for me .

For what I have seen 97 º is very normal for a g1s without modifications , thermal paste etc. ..
Without overclock my gpu reachs 109 º with cooling pad , i think my gpu has one or two weeks pefore it caputs , cause i'v been playing prince of persia and there is alot of stuter . And the temps aren't that High 97 º 98 º comparing to the ones I had when I played heroes of might and magic 109 º without stuter .

About the fan there ins't any program to speed it up, and heating your cpu won't have mutch effect ... the fan itself ans't that much effect on the gpu , my fan only reachs max rpm when gpu hits 100 º

What is this "sleep fix" you speak of? I've done some searching and can't find anything.

I've tried using the 180.xx drivers, and things run faster, but temps still throttle at 96-97c. Using the one ASUS recommended as a fix (167.62) it runs cooler 92-94 but also slower... I think very soon I will do the RMA.

One other note, I noticed after the computer has been in screensaver mode for a while the fan is blasting 100% but neither the CPU or GPU is working very hard or very hot, anyone know why or how to keep that going?

I guess the sleep fix is putting the computer to standby and then bringing it back.

Be aware that if it works, you're on your own with the GPU temps... since the fan is not cooling properly as you already noticed, and the throttling is no longer there to help.
