I haven't been so excited about a laptop (very corny ) W90 then it was discontinued and now I have been researching the G71gx-a2 from http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=G71GX-A2

however I'm up in the great north (canada) and shipping is ridiculous.

so I found a local authorized dealer http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=026658&cid=NBK.300.358 and it has the following setup Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz, 17" WUXGA, 640GB HDD (2x320GB), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M 1GB, 6GB RAM.

    my question is the following.

from 1toppc they have the options to upgrade the cpu from Q9000 to Intel QX9300 Core 2 Extreme , RAM from 3x 2gb to 3x 4gb

If i could find the Intel QX9300 chip would it be an easy upgrade?
is it triple channel sodimm ram, on the corsair website it states that it is DDR2-667/800 SODIMM ? anyone know of any 3x 4gb ram?
can the system board support 12gbs' of ram or more ?

can you boot from the express card slot cause thinking of adding one of these .. http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/flash_drives/ocz_slate_series_express_card

If i'm in the wrong section please let me know. thank you.

again this is just a fantasy setup.. I have intention of purchasing this laptop hopefully sooner and not later (W90)

Please don't suggest other laptops setups, last thing i need is a change of heart, and I know this would be overkill for a laptop, hence it's just a fantasy .

    Thank you in advance.

The CPU should not be a problem if you do not mind voiding your warranty (or have it installed by the reseller if they are an authorized service center).

12 GB memory is possible, but outside of running multiple VMs or heavy rendering in 3D apps or HD video, not worth the expense. 6 GB is plenty.

And for the SSD, Expresscard SSDs are nearly not as fast as internal SSDs. You would be better off overall if you keep the 6 GB RAM and replace one of the 320 GB drives with a smaller SSD.

Thank you .. I do plan to use it for multiple Vm's.

I guess i'll upgrade after the warranty is over. if the CPU will be availble at that time.
