After doing a bit of research it seems like the DC jack in my S96J is going. This has happened once before and I had to return it to get it repaired. A few phone calls and a month with out a notebook and it was fixed. This time I'm out of warranty though so I'm sort of at a loss of what to do. It's at the stage where I need to play with the jack to get it to charge, but it's getting harder and harder to get it just right.

I opened up the laptop the other day and sure enough, the DC jack didn't look good. The main pin in the back is cracked and the motherboard has some heat damage around it. Since the computer is still running, I think the motherboard is still fine. I haven't used the computer since I opened it up out of fear =P.

Replacement doesn't seem THAT hard, but I was wondering if anyone has done it before and has had any success with it. It looks like just a few solder points and thats about it. I figure I'm out of warranty, my as well try and fix it myself for cheap. If it doesn't work I can always send it back to get a whole new motherboard for something like 200+ bucks... ugh....

I checked the ASUS estore and couldn't find the replacement jack. Does anyone have any idea which jack I need for a S96J?

    Thanks
