... I hope you're not in the US - because that model won't be coming here. Based on the A7j that I've seen numbers on and the A7vc (Z83v sold in the US) that I've used..... it's a decent machine..... The only thing that bothers me and most of the people who consider it is the fact that is has only a WXGA+ screen, whereas the W2 has a WSXGA+ screen.... For a 17" with 256mb ATI x1600..... I don't know... I'd want the higher res, but there are plenty of people in this forum with a Z83v and love it... I don't know why none of them even posted to comment, but the A7jc is the successor to it so you can search around for comments about that if you want.

My "bad" list would include the following - but this is only my opinion, no one elses:

    1. only WXGA+ screen
    2. Plastic Chassis (A series)
    3. Heavy - close to 9 pounds....

When you compare it to the W2 (7.25 pounds, carbon fiber / anodized brushed aluminum / WSXGA+ screen), then it looks like junk... but compare it to all the other 17" systems out there and it's easily in the top 5-6, if you place the W2 at #1.

    ... Hope that helps.

Thanks proportable. Every little bit of feedback helps. I currently have a 17"crt monitor and i only use 1024x768 so dont think that will really bother me. For its weight it doesn't look as chunky as some of the other laptops out there which appeals to me. As i want a semi desktop replacement the weight doesnt bother me.

I also live in Australia so we have this model :).
Any more opinions welcome cheers. :)

Dont know if you have purchased this computer yet but I would like to give you a word of warning.

When i first bought it everything was great with no problems. but after about 3 months the computer got very buggy, restarting and blue screen all the time. then one morning it just didn't turn on. I had to send it away to get fixed (which took 10 working days) and when it was returned I got some other problems and the video card died. Its away at service now. I dont know if my Aj7c is just a lemon and the others are fine but I won't be taking the risk with ASUS again.

When it was working its a pretty good computer. It comes shipped with Windows media edition so you can use a remote and watch TV DVDs. the screen is big enough to watch movies and things. Games ran pretty good as well. but just hope you dont have the same problems as me because it is driving me crazy. 6 months of ownership 1 month it has been away getting serviced!

    ----------update----------

Just talked to customer service and they are waiting for parts. Will take up to another 5 to 15 days before they have the parts... appalling

Jetaxe, I'm sorry to hear that you've had so many issues with your A7J. However, in your post you've failed to mention where you're located... this is very important since service departments vary from region to region.

Case in point, we recently had someone who had posted complaining about poor service from the Asus centre in the UK, yet I've also read glowing reports from the North American centre.

You quite often also have more luck if you deal with Asus via your retailer; they tend to have regular contact with them and know exactly who to light a fire under...

Don't take this personally or anything, but since you've neglected to tell us your location I suspect you're probably American... you guys, who make up a major part of the english speaking internet population, often forget that this is an international medium. ;)

    Hi TedJ,

I am offended! An American you say... pffff ;)

Actually I am Australian (from Darwin not Melbourne). The computer was bought in Australia but I have since moved to Germany. So it is getting repaired at the German service centre. I contacted my retailer and ASUS and because I am over here they said to go through the German ASUS service centre...
