Hi, I am 16 years old and I need this laptop for college next year but I can buy it now and have some fun![]()
It's my dad who is going to pay it so I must to buy to much.
SO I got a few questions.
1. Between this 3, is there a lot of difference? I think Ill take the 1.86 but Im not sure yet.
Centrino - 1.73G( 740 ) $1524
Centrino - 1.86G( 750 ) $1571
Centrino - 2.00G( 760 ) $1637
2. Should I wait a bit to buy it in case the price drop or should I just buy it now? I am going to Las Vegas and to a friends house in USA so I can use it during my trip if I get bored.
3. Can we burn dvd and read dvd when buying this machine or do we need to pay extra money to get the 8x Dual Layer (70$)
Optical Drive
Interchangeable 24X/24X/8X/24X DVD+CD-RW Combo module
Interchangeable 8X/24X/24X/10X/8X/4X/8X/4X DVD-RW/DVD+RW Dual module
4. If not included, I may take this. If I upgrade to this, Can I burn dvds and read them?
Upgrade 512M x 1 to 1024M x 2 ------- $200
Get Combo to DVDRW upgrade Free
5. I read about red ghosting but I don't know what it is ... can anyone tell me please?
6. Do you recommend me take this? 2nd Battery ( in optical bay ) or Extra Main Battery $139, or none ?
Or it isn't worth it. I don't really think I'm going to need 6+ hours without chargin I think in College.
7. Make your laptop a TV -- USB TV Tuner $75. If I buy this, cam I watch TV anywhere and what kind of channel do I get? Is it worth it?
8. Is 2 more year extended warranty $139 worth it? Can I upgrade this lets say after 8 month of using my laptop without the extra warranty?
Thanks a lot, if you know any answers to any of my questions, please answer and help me.
Thanks a lot guys

1) Get the Pentium M 750 1.86 GHz. It offers the best price/performance ratio at the moment. There's not much difference between this and the 2.0 GHz.
2) The prices won't drop much.... this is really up to you.
3) Yes, you NEED a 8x Dual Layer DVD burner to burn DVDs; the regular combo drive only reads them.
4) This sounds like a good option if you can afford it.
5) There was a problem with the LCDs having red ghosting...kinda like the ghosting you hear about with LCDs during gaming. However, the red ghosting issue has been taken care of and you no longer need to worry about it.
6) You probably don't need it...if you think you do, you can always just buy it later. The notebook should get around 4 hours of battery life; if you watch DVDs the whole time, it should be reduced down to 3 hours.
7) This will work only if wherever you are has a coaxial plug (TV port). You'll get the local channels for wherever you are. -

1. Not to me. If i am on a tight budget the cpu is my last concern. I would invest my money into maybee more ram or a better hdd. There is not too much difference between those cpu's
2. If you wait long enough you will only the the product drop and get replaced. Dont expect too much of a price change.
3. To burn a dvd you will need the dvdrw. To read dvd the base combo drive does that
4. dvdrw = dvd read / rewrite / write / cd read / rewrite /write
It does everything
5. It is nothing your dealer is suposed to screen for it. When you get your nb you can screeen it too and hopefully your dealer did the right job. Here is a good example http://www.geared2play.com/images/ghosting.wmv
6. If you need more then 4 hours then you should take it.
7. Ye that should work. The channels you get are the same channels you get on your cable box or local channels if its just an antena.
8. Well if i was a customer i would get atleast 1 more year. It would suck if the lappy broke 1 year and 1 day after purchase. No generally you have to buy at time of purchase it all depends on your dealer. We require warranty be purchased at checkout but it differs from dealer to dealer.
Good luck -

Is this worth it? : Make your laptop a TV -- USB TV Tuner $75
Lets say I move to an appartment and I don't buy any cable or tv, can I watch tv with only my laptop ??
And do we need a cable to plug in into the tv port or is it wireless ?
Thanks a lot again -

Yes it has to be a hard wire. Coaxial....

Probably, you checked the Canadasys website to get the price. It is still worth to get a USB TV tuner for watching a TV. I am using a PCI TV tuner in my desktop machine in home as well so that i don't need to move a TV from my home town. When you have a service, the TV cable is included and everything is ready from the original TV turner retail box( cable, remote control, driver, application software ).

If I get an extra battery, I should get the first option right ?
1. 2nd Battery ( in optical bay )
2. Extra Main Battery $139,
And do you think I should get the warranty ?
2more years 139$ @ http://www.canadasys.com
Thanks again -
well, if you want to use the optical drive while using battery, the SECOND option will be better. If you just want to use the computer for a long, extended period of time without having to turn it off, the first option is better.
Personally, I'd go with the first option, but it depends on how you use the computer.
The warranty...is up to you. Most of the time, if computers fail, it will be within the FIRST year of purchase. So extended warranties aren't often needed...but are handy, just in case something does happen. You never know. -
I'd get the 1.73Ghz and spend the extra money on a faster hard drive.
