This will be directed at most of the resellers on this board like Justin, Eddy, Eddie(canadasys), and all the others.
One final question about the red ghosting.
My screen did have it, yes DID. I finally got my reseller to talk to Asus and they set up a meeting and took a look at my laptop. Guess what? No more ghosting AT ALL. So they didn't replace my panel, makes sense.
My question is, do you think there will be any adverse effects on my screen? Should I have them check out the S/N and have them replace the panel? I'm worried because it DID have the ghosting, so if the problem was a chip in the panel then I have the faulty chip. What else could happen from the faulty chip?
I did notice my screen ghosted pretty badly with certain colors when I was watching movies, or playing ROSE Online.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers,
Mike

Here's the easiest way to break this to you.... agian.
IF you actually did have the problem - Asus covered all screen replacements for everyone...... backed by samsung. The problem was a controller chip on the rear of the lcd, but it's not easily replaced and since samsung was paying for the replacement, they replaced the screens.
... I can tell you this again and I'm sure you'll ask one more time after the place you got it tells you otherwise... but if you believed them you wouldn't be asking this question over and over. Call Asus in California and ask them how they took care of this. -

What? You sent in a screen with ghosting and they had a meeting about it? Why. We sent them almost 90 screens now. They never once had meetings for them... How did it arrive with no ghosting? This doesn't make sence, none of it.. Sorry...

Sounds like a possibility. I dont know the entire story sounds too ridiculous to be made up.

... and in that case... yeah I'd think it could come back.

If you mean can ghosting dissapear? Definite NO...Can it appear after you had a good screen possibly although all evidence shows it can spread very mildy rather get worse but a small degreee of it has to be there from the getgo. After a weeks worth of usage if you are meant to develop ghosting you will see it very mildly thats about where it ends.
-
Hey guys, yes the ghosting has gone away. I can't see it, but I'm worried because it was there, so my screen is a problem screen, but they can't replace it without actually having seen it.
Meeting? I meant he just met up with the Asus rep' here in Toronto. My reseller told me in Toronto they deal with Asus directly, and not through some third party like mentioned before. True or not, I don't know.
Justin...thanks, I'll give it a shot and call up Asus California. If Samsung is paying for it I seriously don't see why they won't replace it. Couldn't they check the part number or something and confirm my screen was one with the problematic chip?
Eddy...Yes my screen had the ghosting and it was very apparent. Even my reseller saw it and said holy crap, yes we need this replaced I will give you a call when I talk to Asus about it. I finally got it in and he took it with him to see the Asus rep'. I went to pick up my laptop and he said they wouldn't replace the screen because they couldn't see any ghosting at all and the creaking issue was just me being picky (I seriously think not).
When I went into my reseller's store to pick up my laptop I took a look myself and low and behold the ghosting isn't there anymore. How is this? I have no idea, really. I just know it was there and now it's not, but I want it replaced because I know it's a chip problem and this chip problem may have other effects on the screen.
Let's see what happens next. Keep your fingers crossed for my 2000 dollar investment.
Cheers,
Mike -
Quick favour if you resellers don't mind
If you could shoot a couple emails over to Pacificnotebooks that'd be great

If not that's okay too. I was just thinking it would help my situation maybe, I dunno.

I am only telling you what i know. If you got ur unit back with no ghosting either you brighness/contrast was adjusted which makes it better as i discovered a long time ago or they changed the screen. There is now way it just dissapeared unless a good shaking made it go away and the odds of that are abiut 1 in nothing. Never seen that before and trust me alot of our screens with ghosting went through alot of shakes in transit never once did it just go away. If your settings were not changed then your screen was changed simple as that. How sure? 100% there is nothing that i have ever seen otherwise and the whole situation just seems far fetched but who knows theres always the posibility it just went away i just wont believe it until i see it,...

I'm sorry Mike - but I can't tell someone else what to do. I've mentioned to Asus that this is what occurred and if they can't get them to do anything........ which they wouldn't be able to ........ you're out of luck. It's up to your reseller and if you feel they let you down, then you've got to tell Asus about it, period.

i'm in the same boat as shampoo in terms of my screen. i hate the red ghosting on the right and especially on the bottom left tapering up. now i can't see it at all. even when i have brightness at full, and go from white to black. it doesn't make sense. i remember the red ghosting seemed to be temperature dependant. i wonder if the cooler winter temperatures have anything to do with it... then again my house has only cooled a few degrees, nothing major.
I don't know if i want to risk getting a worse screen (i.e. dead pixels or more apperent "lines"). anyway, if i do it, it would be in the summer anyway, cuz i have no time to mess with this during university. -
What are you worrying about. You have a year or more warranty if it comes back send it in. If it doesnt dont worry about it.
-
true. i'll do it after i graduate.
-
baaaaaaah, eddy I'm telling you it went away. They refused to change my screen.
Thanks for all your help guys, I'll take it into consideration.
Flaxx, we are in the same boat buddy.
Like I said I'm just worried that the faulty chip will have an adverse effect on my screen.
I'm going to compare my screen to my friend's M6Bne. They have the same screen right? -
The W1n and Z70va have the same.
I think the M6Bne had a WXGA not a WSXGA -
grrr...oh well, nothing to compare to.
-
WOO HOO~!!!
Here's an update on my status, which some of you are probably sick of, haha
Persistence is key to getting what you want I guess?
I spoke to my reseller, Adrian, and he spoke to a different Asus representative and they agreed to replace my screen for me~!!!! Now the only thing left is for them to fix the creaking body on my baby. Hope I don't get a crappy screen to replace my old one.
Wish me luck~!
Thanks again for all your advice on matters that needed inside information Justin, Eddy and everyone else who added input.
Cheers,

No problem...... good luck with that.

Okay I got my machine today.
Screen is as beautiful as can be so far. Bonus bootup Asus splash screen, very nice touch. Creaking has been minimized.
They took it apart and put her back together and the lifting of the front has been reduced dramatically and the creaking part where it didn't fit together properly is now better. Not completely gone, but it doesn't go nuts so I am now happy.
The screen was COMPLETELY replaced so my scratched up lid is no more~!!! This was a surprise. I am extremely pleased, but they did end up scratching the bottom of my laptop, which was in immaculate condition. *Justin, Eddy roll eyes here*
No biggy it's just the bottom of my lappy, doesn't bother me one bit. One weird thing is my lid has trouble closing properly with my Shaggy Mac keyboard/screen protector in place. Never happened before, but no biggy.
All in all I am a happy camper and am FULLY satisfied. I'm crossing my fingers as I speak because I don't want $##^ to happen after saying something like this.
Cheers,

thats good to hear..... if they scratched your computer I think they should fix it.
-
Very true Justin, I also think so as well, but since it's just the bottom I'm not too concerned.
Don't want to have to wait another 2 weeks or so to have a little thing like that fixed.
I'm fine with it
Oh man I'm loving the splash screen at bootup haha.
Hey Justin do you know how much it would cost to have a M6Va screen installed on my Z70Va?
M6Va meaning the glossy screen type. Is it even possible to order the screen separately and install it?
Cheers,
Mike -
Going to the glossy will make the resolution WXGA IIRC though.
And it'll cost another $300-400 just for the screen... -
PROPortable Company Representative
You could transplate a WSXGA+ W1v screen in there if you wanted....... It takes a little bit of work, but I've done similar things (took my ACEview from an L5ga and put it in my old M6ne)........
You're looking at more like $500 just for the screen ---- probably another $200 to do the swap if you paid someone to do it (honestly).
But you'd also really need to wait till the next W1 comes to the states.... and is here for a while so there is time for parts to be available... so I'd think you could do this in June or so if you really wanted. -
Hrmm interesting. So it IS possible if you make the right contacts.
Quick picky update on my laptop return. The major case movement has improved dramatically, but now the right palm is making a popping sound when I place my palm on it and the middle just above the touchpad sinks inwards with a slight press of the finger.
Not bugging me as much as the previous problem so I'm going to deal with it. I don't want something else happening to my machine if I have it sent back in, like scratching this beautiful screen.
So this is how the screen is supposed to look. It's like night and day. I get more blues, reds, and less yellow tints and washed out colours. So my previous screen WAS defective. Whoever has an M6 or a Z70Va with washed out colours, GO SEE YOUR RESELLER. This new screen I received as a replacement for my red ghosting screen is fantastic. No dead pixels from what I can see either, and I'm not going to go LOOKING for one either just to piss me off haha
Even if there was one I'm sure it'll be hard to FIND since this screen has such a high res'.
Cheers,
Mike -
Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I received that keyboard brush gift from Asus. It's a great little gift, but I don't think it'll last too long. I wonder if you could buy a couple.
Is it safe to use on the screen? It seems soft enough.
Cheers,
Mike -
Forget about what I said about my laptop being returned MUCH better.
It is better, but still not up to par. I know laptops creak, even Z70Vas because when it comes down to it, it is plastic, BUT and this is a big but, my case must be a defect.
I compared my Z70Va to someone else's Z70Va in my school library and his is SOLID, as it should be. My left palm rest is SOLID, but the right, even though it was reconstructed, is still creaking.
They also put a scratch on my case near the bottom right of the screen on the base. They scratched the bottom of my laptop as well, including the battery, which all of a sudden reports an 8% wear level. WTF!!?!?!?!?
I'm not pleased, except for the screen they put in to replace my red ghosting screen, which is spectacular.
Justin, what do you think? They "fixed" the creaking and added scratches, but the creaking is still there along with the case "lifting" from the base at the front where the battery is by the touchpad. This lifting doesn't occur when the battery isn't there.
Grrrrrrr
Cheers,
Mike -
shampoo, so many people have this prob. mine included and a friends z70v. i think there was a dumbass in the production line. If i were you, i wouldn't send it in for warranty cuz of creaking, it could come back with a worse problem.
in the summer i plan on getting my screen done as well as my battery - it's also at 8% or more, and is RAPIDLY going down hill... a 71wHr battery now down to 62wHr in otherwords it's gone from the rated 4800mAH to 4190mAH in a couple months. So it'll be dead by summer, i'm sure. At that time i think i will pull it apart myself and do what is required to make it super solid. I think it's more than just tightening screws.
So you may consider doing the same self-fix if you're feeling ambitious. -
flaxx...yes I know exactly what you mean. They took my baby apart and put her back together, but it's still there. I'm totally not being picky as others have said, it is a defect.
How do I know this? I saw a girl in my school library with a Z70Va and I asked her if I could compare our systems. She bought hers around the same time as I did, in November and hers is SOLID.
Her system is the same as my friend's M6bne. Our Z70Va's should also be this solid. We pay 2000 dollars for a system and it's not what it should be, this is totally wrong.
Asus should honour their warranty for defects, they shouldn't turn around and tell us they tightened stuff up and that we're being picky and should live with it.
I don't know how you're going to make your system solid by doing it yourself. I believe it's a part issue, where the body parts are NOT fitting properly. The only way I think this can be resolved is to get new parts and hope they're GOOD parts.
I'm so glad I'm not alone flaxx, fellow canuck.
Keep me updated on your situation man. PM me and such or create threads.
I was so tempted to beat the girl over the head and just switch laptops with her. hahaha
Cheers,
Mike -
Here I am about to order the Z70Va and now I'm all worried...
Sager 5320, Asus Z70Va, Sager 5320, Asus Z70Va, back and forth and back and forth... -
Darn it .. i thought asus replaced the faulty red ghosting display. If i buy z70va, then i might have the chance to get red ghosting display?? I don't want to go through the process of sending it back .. it is kinda disturbing.
-
cignis and flavs don't worry go ahead and purchase your laptops. This is a great machine. The problem I am *****ing about is NOT a Z70Va specific thing it's just consumer products in general.
There's always the chance of getting a slightly defective product whatever you may purchase. A bike, car, tv, radio, etc.
Don't worry about the Red Ghosting either, majority of the screens now are clean. If you DO end up getting one, which I doubt, you will get it replaced without any problems.
If you have decided on it, then go ahead and get it. Trust me it's an awesome machine that is equally awesome in aesthetics. The thing just looks awesome compared to other mainstream laptops.
Just recently I saw two in my university library. An older chinese lady working on political science papers and the other a guy working on his business/economics stuff. Then there's me, an IT student.
This system is awesome. Go get one.
Cheers,
Mike -
Thanks Shampoo. I am planning to get a laptop by end of this month ... i had in mind a A6v but for $100+ I can get z70va with more features. You don't believe how lucky I am to get faulty product but I hope i don't have problem like that with this laptop since I will have a week (spring break) to get my laptop ready for college. In case (hopefully not w/ me) the laptop is faulty, how long with it takes to realize it is a red ghosting? How to test for red ghosting?

Hey Flavs83, check your box, I sent you a PM.
