I feel like I got a fantastic deal. (excitement!)
I've been looking since January, and this notebook actually has all the features I wanted. So, when I saw the preorder date moving further away I decided to spring for it![]()
I just wanted to say thanks to all the helpful people in the forums here as, without you, I probably would have settled for less, and possibly paid more for it.
Now to wait. *sits facing the mailbox*

beats >2k for a tm8204 ^_^ (well, for me anyways.)
i figure the artic silver was a bit expensive, but a 3-year warranty is nice, and i wouldn't want to muck it up. -
They charge 50$ for a few drops of artic silver, I would rather do it myself, but it does take some experience and most people can't do it on their laptops as well as takes half an hour or so of focusing..
-
ah, i'm not worried about hurting the computer... assembled my desktop meself, aftermarket heatsink on the graphics card, fun stuff.
just that it seems processors are always labled "don't do *anything* or your warranty is null and void. no, really. i see that speculative glint in your eye. stop right there!" and so on. i figure this way it's far above board. i'm responsible for nothing
so, wocha think? computer fun yes? -
When i get a new toy, like a laptop, i always open it up to see what makes it tick
I take out everything and try to put it back together, if I fail, i cry
But, its really fun seeing what is inside your computer and knowing that you actually put it all together and gave it life. -
"Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound"
whats that for?
im planning to buy the z96j at powernotebooks as well! but unless something nicer pops up within the following two months... and even better, maybe the price will drop since the intel duo core droped price : O hahaha
but just as it is now, its a good enough deal XD -
thats really cool
i think you got the exact configuration i make when im making one from them.
except i get the wireless card. the things not much use to me without it.
their extra batteries are only 60 which is reasonable. The actual startup is expensive
i made the s96 with newegg parts ( whats on sale of 80 gb samsung 5400 hd 1 gb 1 dim corsair) from mwave with a slot load dvd even for 1200, thats with assembling myself. 1.66 cpu, so count on the z96 to be 1300(1280-1290), with 1 year
1400 about with the 3 year to compare the price u paid, but if youre going that route youre not buying that option.
50 for arctic silver is up to you
Im just giving a comparison for shoppers based on price alone, mostly because ive been building this model on a lot of websites lately. -
ah, yeah. i've got a spare wireless card here, so i thought i'd put that in myself.
slot-load drive sounds intriguing. i think i'm fine with mine, but do you have a link? i'm curious now... -

Wow kool, l33t c0w, can you pass me some links on where and how you pre-ordered it?
I would prolly get the same setup as you if i chose this notebook.
Yah that would be kool to be able to put in a slot load drive!
You can prolly have another retailer apply Artic Silver for you for like 5-10$.
Thanks in advance,

$50 for a couple of drops of Arctic Silver? The whole Arctic Silver tube can't cost more than $7 which you can use for over 20 applications.
Arctic Silver is thermal compound you put on top of the CPU between the CPU and the heatsink. The Arctic Silver allows the heat to be conducted to the heatsink better so the heatsink can expell the heat. -

Unfortunately our technicians do not work for free.
While the actual cost of the Arctic Silver 5 is negligible, it does take extra time to prepare the surfaces and apply the Arctic Silver 5 during assembly, and to get it to set properly it takes several reboots during burn in. The cost is 99% labor, not the material.
Now, having said that, has anyone noticed this on our homepage:

Actually, I flew right through the homepage on my way to look at the laptops, but powernotebooks was kind enough to modify my order after the fact when I asked about it, and the promotional offer is pretty nice
nerj: artic silver is a compound that goes between your cpu and the heatsink to help make heat distribution more effecient. keeps your processor cooler.

Does the Z96j intake air from the side and blows it underneath it or vice versa? I'm just wondering because i plan on buying the S96j and am going to purchase a notebook cooler for it.

Take a look at our Picture Gallery
The pictures tell you not only that it sucks in from the bottom and exhausts from the side, but it shows you exactly where. -
=/ price went up for the laptop I want...oh well, I have to save a little longer then
Finally! I'm on preorder for a Z96j :D
