Those sons of B****es, I just bought my G51J and they're releasing a G51JX with a Geforce GTS 360M? ASUS is loosing it with this constant release of the G series while they could be spending time and effort on fixing the issues.

Agreed. I've never seen a manufacturer put out so many refreshes like this.

Except the price tag for the new refresh is almost $1000 more than the original. Is it worth it if they use the same crappy chassis/cooling solution on a card that probably runs even hotter unless its downclocked?

Also, no other site except for that Dutch site and some German site even reports that model, so maybe the information might not be accurate?

the GTS 360m will more than likely (like 99.9999%) be a 128 bit, GDDR5, G92 rebrand (i.e a GTX 260m) with almost exactly the same performance.

Honestly at this point I can care less. The only thing the "new" G51JX provides is 8GB of RAM which is overkill and a Geforce GTS 360M which we don't know anything about. While it has a smaller HDD space at 500GB compared to G51J's 640GB of HDD space. The whole propose of buying the G51J for me was the good price vs performance and because I needed it for some serious heavy work.

Take it with a grain of salt.
    g51j-a1 + 4gb ddr3 + newest mobile graph = 1600$+1000$+ .. don't think they ask for close 3k$ .. it's just asus.
Either fake or loong loong way forecast +1year

I felt the same way when I got my g51vx-a1. 1 month and they come out with an i7 version.

Still happy with it though. Could be just a result of rapid growth in technology for the laptop market and they want to be cutting edge.

don't really care about G51JX. It's better of course, but at what cost? Even if it is release at the same time as G51J, I would still buy G51J instead of G51JX. Reason: G51JX cost too much, I don't have that kind of budget.

Yeah, GTS should be 128 bit only. 360m would mostly include dx11. So there's not much difference in performance.

They might redesign the chasis and include a fan for gts 360m and a fan for cpu. 500gb might only be one hdd instead of g51j which include 2 hdd.

Nvidia is so far behind on its desktop part there's no way in hell any 360m is being released before march, earliest. That site lists the ati mobile 5700 parts as well but *they* haven't even been introduced to the market yet and ati is firing on all cylinders.

I highly suspect the information provided there.

the information is correct. As has been stated: it would be a G92 rebrand, which is not the fermi architecture, or even the desktop 200 series architecture. Also, the ATI mobile series HAS been projected to be released in notebooks by January of 2010.

I understand what you're saying but what I stated is correct: neither part, from nvidia or ati have been officially announced by either party. All else is simply speculation and insider info. None of it is official so any of it can change on a dime.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    IM FOR THE LOSE!!!

:( i want GTX 360m!!! i bet it will be = gtx 260 desktop power, dangnammit i hate myself rite now.

i srsly hope those laptops are made up lolol.

lol same man. im happy with c2q, luckily they never changed the gfx card or i'd be raging everytime i went to sleep! the G51J problems have actually soothed my anger of not waiting, sucks for the J owners tho :( hope that it's temporary, the J owners deserve some asus love as well.

edit: NVM about the GTX 260 desktop, forgot the GTS part so yea...i think it will also be a 128-bit card. that means it wont be as powerful as i thought, which may mean it = slightly more powerful gtx 260m?

Ok, where? I've seen no launch from ATI or Nvidia for those parts. The ATI mobile parts they've talked about and certainly exist, yes... but launched? Not that I've seen and I'm involved fairly deeply in IT. However, as with anything, I very well could be wrong. So, please provide any official launch links you may have.

    Thanks.

    Hmm... GTS 360m.

I wonder when they release the GT X 360m if it'll be based on the desktop 2xx cards.

I'll take a guess that it'll be a GTX 280 with 128-bit memory buss, GDDR5 memory and DirectX 11 support.

Soon :) They already have them listed on numerous Netherlands websites. Being such a power-hungry country, I'm sure they'll have the GTX 360M available in the US when the G51Jx is released.

I don't really care... Computer tech advancces so fast, it doesn't even matter what you buy today. There will be something alot better at the same price just months down the road, sometimes even weeks.

Same here although I feel bad for g51j owners with BSOD. Real bad :(

I knew something would happen soon after I got my g51vx, so immediately I began saving for a better one planned for next summer roughly. I'm hoping for something similar to the W90vp but sli nVidia on a 18.4"! Hopefully with 2 fans and higher end i7 :)

4 more gigs of ram which you'd pay a premium for, and which are useless for the vast majority of gamers (I however, would <3 8gigs of ram for my 3d modeling purposes)

I use 3ds Max and AutoCAD and I haven't had a need for more than 4GB of RAM. If anything a powerful CPU matters more in modeling work.

well when rendering some of my more extensive bits in Cinema 4D I 100% ram usage and "not enough memory" errors, my CPU is at 70% load, so I think that RAM would help me more in my case.

Basically I think ASUS is trying to keep up appearances next to Acer in terms of hardware. Acer releases a 3D vision laptop so ASUS follows and does the same thing, but better. Now that Acer announced they’ll be the first to release a DirectX 11 ready laptop with an Core i7 and HD 5850 we’re seeing ASUS doing the same thing with almost identical specifications.

I don't think it has to do with Acer. Its just when the other companies deliver the products. And intel is coming out with the new cpu's in januari so then then all brands can start release laptops with them in there. I just wish there would be more laptops with 2 hard disk options so you can have one SSD for the OS and programs and one hard disk for storage.

but it would've been nice to have both: 3D vision + DX11 Support

That would be my TRUE NEXT LAPPY!!

So far I've owned 4 ASUS laptops:
    M51Sn
    M50Sv
    G50Vt
    and recently a G51J

I've been satisfied with nearly all of my ASUS notebooks which is why I became a customer for the 4th time. Nowhere in that statement have I said otherwise. I'm only pointing out to the obvious BSOD issues (has been 6 weeks now) with the G51J which should receive full dedication from the ASUS team rather than moving on with another G series release. I don’t wish to see the same desertion that happened with the W90 happen with the G51J. So please spare me the “move along” comment, because I expect my $1820 CAN (with taxes) investment to be functioning right from the start.
