Do any ASUS models come with a fingerprint reader? Aside from convenience are there any other advantages to the biometric scanner? Thanks for the info.

The asus V1J comes with fingerprint reader
You are more safe with using a good password (not your last name backwards) than using FP-reader.
Why? There is actually a slim chance that somone else has a very similar fingerprint to yours.
But don´t worry about it unless you are a CIA agent -
lol, thanks for the advice

The F2J and F2F has Fingerprint Readers, too.

Does the finger have to be alive?

After that mythbusters episode where they came up with like 4 fairly simple ways to beat a fingerprint scan, i'm even more over the tech than i already was.

Looking into the recognition software, it has come a LONG way in the last four years. One of the best things they've moved to would be the little slice scanners where you run your finger down it instead of one scanner the size of your finger (because some folks are afriad people could just lift the print and use it to gain access)...... Considering most people don't use passwords or use them and write them down and put them some place in the open....... it's actually a really good idea... and certainly much better than nothing at all.

maybe in the future, web cam will incorporate a retinal scan

You cannot use a dead finger. It will only read a finger that is alive, although I havn´t tried it myself.
Fp-readers are also handy if you want other people to have access without telling them your password. You could just add their fingerprints. -

True... true... and only give those people access to certain things..... not something everyone with a laptop right now may ever need to do, but the evolution of the laptop, especially by Asus and the computing power by Intel is to continue to push into the business and high end computing markets..... and obviously meet or exceed the security requirements of the government....... it's about bringing in new customers.
