I'm considering getting the Asus G1S for my new notebook. I would like to be able to use it as a DAW, so it is important to know what firewire chipset this notebook uses. I want to be able to hook up my RME Fireface 800 and the manufacturer strongly recommends a Texas Instruments chipset.
Is there any G1S owners who can check on this for me?

If you know how to check it, I will gladly find out for you.
Edit: I found this in device manager: RICOH OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller -

Thanks for checking nightfox. That's what I was afraid of.

Ummm... the G1s doesn't even have FW800. The only laptop i know of that has it is the Macbook pro.

Thanks for the heads up fabarati. FW800 is not necessary as it only comes into play when using multiple audio interfaces (which I don't plan to do).

Ah, ok. I'm not sure if it not being a TI-chipset will matter much. I'm not even sure that it's that widespread. Try it with another laptop. You should also note that most laptops (once again, the Macbook Pro being an exception) have 4-pin firewire ports.

The Ricoh chipset sucks. I tried DAW on my V1Jp and can't work at low latency at all. Good luck on your search, I'm gonna have to buy an ExpressCard Firewire card.

I have the Ricoh cipset. But my FW-enclosure is not used fo any professional use, only storage.

I have a G2S and I haven't encountered any problems with any of my pro audio applications or hardware so far.
