    Can anyone help?
The region code setting for the drive on my laptop has been fixed to 1.
I sometimes use dvds with region codes other than 1.
Some say that one solution to unlock is to have a firmware patch.
    The drive is Mat****a dvd-ram uj860s (DriveInfo).
The laptop (m50 SV-A1) was bought from gentechpc only last June 2008.
As of this time, I cannot find the patch relating to this drive.
I also searched the firmware page/portal, & no discussion yet in their forum.
If there's an alternative way to get my drive region-free, kindly inform.
Your help will be truly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Lansky

I've made 4 changes of region codes already (from watching orig.dvd films).
Now the setting is permanent & I'm limited to movies with region code 1.
Unfortunately I was not aware before the purchase of the laptop that the drive would be a problem (1st time to buy).
    Hoping this can be resolved.
    Also, thanks for your feedback.

Just to tell you, this happens with any and all DVD drives. It locks on the 4th region change.. your DVD playing software should ask you everytime it needs to change the region, and how many changes you have left.

Technically it's not supposed to be a 'problem' because it's supposed to stop you from importing movies from other regions before they're released in your own region or something like that.
