I have just purchased the new Asus M5Ne (Pearl White), and i must say this is the most attractive notebook i have ever seen, it is quite simply stunning!, comparing favourably to any Sony, Apple or Fujitsu, Toshiba notebooks i have come across, yet significantly cheaper.

This notebook costs roughly US$200 more than the standard M5N. I will explain the differences:

    M5N
    - Black colour
    - DVD/CD-RW
    - Wireless LAN 802.11b (11mb/s)
    - 1 * 3 cell (24whr) battery (2 1/2 hours rundown time)

    M5NE
    - Pearl White colour with silver strip on the cover
    - DVD-RW/DVD-RAM
    - Wireless LAN 802.11g (54mb/s)
    - 1 * 3 cell (24whr) & 1 * 6 cell (48whr) battery (5 hours rundown life)

Basically everything else remains the same to my knowledge.

    - 512mb DDR333 memory (2 * 256mb) max expandable 768mb by replacing the 1 free slot
    - 1.6g Centrino processor

I was swayed from the M5N to the M5Ne by the extra 6 cell battery as i would have purchased this anyway with the M5N. The option to burn a dvd gives me around 8* the capacity of a cd and is very useful for storing photo's that are 10mb a file.

This is the ideal notebook for travelling, it is very fast, quiet and light. It also does not appear to get too hot as the fan works quite effectively. I do not use notebooks for games, due to current limitation in graphics cards and screen response times of notebook's.

This notebook partners my existing desktop perfectly, and i highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to combine their desktop with a notebook, NOT replace it.

    Regards

    Mateo

The description sounds like S5Ne to me, for some reason.
I googled the model number and it only showed Chinese pages.
Keep on updating on this info. :)

    Hi Guys,

I thought a few people might be interested in this. I will do my best to respond.

President Kim - this is NOT the S5Ne (that laptop has been available for at least 6 months, does not contain a DVD-RW (it has an External CD-RW/DVD-ROM), no 802.11g (it uses 802.11b), and is styled differently to the M5N/Ne, touchpad, casing etc.

dekchi - you seem very interested, you should be it's a great laptop, and stunning to look at, i cannot tell you where to purchase it outside of Australia, however if you talk to your local Asus dealer, they should know when it will be available, i only found out 3 weeks ago, as i was going to purchase the M5n (which i also think is very attractive), then my dealer said at the end of May they will be stocking the new M5Ne, and then explained to me it was essentially the same as the M5n although included a DVD Writer and is Pearl White in colour. This is not essentially true as it also provides faster wireless LAN, and the clincher for me 2 Batteries![ :D] that's what sold me.

dt34 - yeah i bought it in Sydney last week for AUD $3199, i am moving to Spain in 2 weeks so i get $300 back in tax at the airport which is nice. I would imagine you could ship it to the States, not sure of the exact costs though, i buy camera stuff from the US and it's quite cheap to ship. You might want to check with a few of the dealers in the US, they maybe aware of this new model, not sure.

I will be more than happy to post some pictures if someone can tell me how to make them available on this forum?

Anymore information, just let me know.

    Regards

    Mateo

    President Kim,

the m5ne does exist in white, but from this thread and in another forum, it seems to be available in australia only. they even have the s5ne in a 1.6GHz centrino rather than the 1.0GHz available in the states. i've even got links to 2-3 online sites, but they seem to only deal within australia only, not positive though. try emailing them.

i do have the s5ne, bought it a few weeks ago, great laptop, don't mind the external cd/dvd drive. very light and smooth design. my only gripe is the battery life and wanting the opportunity to upgrade a faster cpu, which u can't, cpu is soldered. would be nice to get those white ones that the aussies have. as far as the display that u asked in the other thread, not sure, but this is my third laptop within 5 yrs (toshiba & sager) and this by far the best display i've had.

here are some more links to reviews on the s5ne, hope that helps.

    to dt34..

i currrently own m5n right now. i just got the laptop actually.. it's still possible for me to return it. anyways, i'm just wondering how much the m5ne would be? i saw it at the site you put up ealier.. that's about 2300 usd.. -_-" i got m5n for 1500 all together. here's my spec.

    pentium m 1.7 (not the 735)
total of 768mb ddr 333 RAM
    80 gig 4200rpm hd
    and the m5n barebone

i'm sure that all the part can be reused but do you have any idea how much the barebone itself would cost?

    thankz

thats a good price for everything for your m5n, where did u buy it from? as far as the links i gave above. they are australian sites that other people have suggested. but these ppl were from australia. i'm not sure if they deal outside of australia, and also, i don't think they sell barebone white systems. you would have to contact them and ask the company. i'm from the states, so i'm limited to what they got here. plus with the price conversion, its still pretty expensive. hope that helps somewhat, i don't work for any of these companies.

To get your $$ back, take your reciepts with you to the airport, their will be a booth called TRS (tourist refund scheme). Line up show your docket and get your 10% back.
To find out more info do a google for TRS.

    Hi Carmen,

I bought the M5NE from the Capital Centre near Chinatown in the city, that is the best place as everyone is competing for your business. The company is called M Squared, they sell primarily Asus products, the guys name was Pochi, if that helps.

To claim tax back just take the receipt to the airport with you, there is a section there for claiming tax.

Just wonder, if I claim the tax,is the warranty still valid? Cos I think the custom keep the orignal receipt. Am I right? Is it that there is a 2 years global warranty on M5Ne if I brought in Australia? Appreatly, the M5N only has one year warranty within canada.

    Thanks

Could someone please post a good closeup pic
of the cpu and HDD compartments of the Asus S5NE or M5NE,
also some other pics of it.

None of the pics of it show much detail.
you can email it to me or just post it on here, thanks.
