I'm new here and am still trying to figure my way around the forum (where's the owner's lounge for my laptop model?).

But I wanted to say that after MONTHS of research, I finally decided on an Asus...and so far, I'm loving it. I bought mine last night, so it's still the honeymoon phase, but omg, gorgeous laptop and so smooooooth.

I'll be back to read threads on this model (some of the members' reviews and pictures REALLY helped with my decision, btw, so thank you!). I'll have some questions, I'm sure - like, can you raise the volume anymore than it's max setting? It's rather low for my liking, but not atrocious.

If I've posted this thread in the wrong area, sorry...the forum is a bit overwhelming and it doesn't seem to be separated by topics (tech, models, issues, recommendations, etc) - not that I can see. But glad to be here.

Anyway, hope to interact with y'all. :)

    Hey, HollyDolly.

I also purchased on of these to hold me over until my G73 arrives, at which point, this will become my wife's system.

I haven't gone into the BIOS but there should be a setting in there to turn up the volume.

When does the G73 arrive and why do you want that over this? DON'T tell me...because then I'll get greedy and dissatisfied with this laptop already. :p

I'm not sure how to work with BIOS but I bet I could find a workaround somewhere on here/Google.

the G73 has a core i7 quad core CPU, and a GPU thats ~30% more powerful than the one in the G72 =]

    I hate you. :p

Why did you TELL me! :D It does sound amazing, and the price seems to be around the $1700 mark, yes? It has everything a laptop should...awesome specs and Blu-ray, 1080 screen...

But I'm happy with what I have! Yes...I am.

    Thanks. :)

I can't wait to get home tonight to play on it. Now the next step is finding a bag that actually fits the size - not easy.

Yes be happy with what you have. There is always a newer shinier laptop around the corner. When I got my new G51vx the new amazing G51j came out 3 weeks later (and I waited and researched for 10 months). But I'm very satisfied with mine :) When the G73JH comes out, there will be a newer/better one soon after I'm sure! Technology is moving so fast these days.

    Congratts on your laptop :D

Congrats on your new purchase :)

The G72 is a solid laptop and I'm sure it'll serve you well. Make sure to clean out the bloatware or better yet, perform a clean install to optimize your system.

There's also an optimization guide (for the G51 series, but it'll also work for the G72 for the most part) to give your laptop a further boost in performance.

    @dune10191 - Aw, thanks! :eek:

You're so right...there's always the "next best thing" - for instance, Best Buy will be releasing a new Asus next week (the sales guy shared), and then in 6 months, another one. I couldn't keep up with all the new/shiny upgrades...though I'd love to.

I DO love this machine so far...but wish for two things: Blu-Ray and better speakers. Other than that, it's really quite awesome! :)

@David - That's a really good point. But you know...when I was at Best Buy for FOUR hours last night (I'm obsessive..lol) and decided to buy this model, they didn't have any in stock that wasn't optimized by their GeekSquad. They charge $99 to remove bloatware/update software for customers who want the option, and they had already optimized all the ones they had in stock, so the sales person sold it to me without charging me the extra $100 because it wasn't my fault they didn't have any pre-optimized versions in stock. So that was cool. When I turned the machine on at home (after removing it from the REALLY well-packaged box), I was ready to go in 5 minutes!

However, I will look at the threads you posted - thanks very much!

I just have to say, so far...I seriously ♥ my laptop! And I've barely done much on it except move things over from my old laptop and right now..transferring iTunes content via Home Share.

But omg, LOVE ♥ ♥ it!
