Does anyone know if this shortcut to change the Battery Mode comes from Power4Gear (Asus) or is part of Vista's own power management?

If it comes from Power4Gear, I will uninstall it, unless someone knows a way to disable this function?

If it comes from Vista, does anyone know how to disable the shortcut?

    Thanks

The reason I want to do this is because of the switched Function and Control keys, making it difficult for me to ctrl+space (our crouch+jump in CSS ;) ). I may just change my whole cfg over a couple characters (I'm thinking RDFG).

I don't know since I'm not using Vista or a notebook where Fn+space works, but I suspect it's an ASUS thing. Hotkeys are controlled by ATK Hotkey though.

I agree, it is an asus hotkey (ATK) thing. Quick question, why are you using FN? On my Asus that is a whole seperate key special for volume...Does FN just really mean another CTRL button, because I thought it had a mind of its own :p

Yeah usually FN is a like a control key, it activates secondary options (which are usually printed in blue on those keys). Kind of like a scientific calculator's 2nd or Alpha button.

I'll try disabling ATK and see what happens.

EDIT: I actually had 2 processes, ATKosd and ATKosd2. After ending them both in task manager the onscreen display doesnt show up, however the Fn keys still work (which should be fine).

The problem was the on screen display caused an alt tab out of counter strike, lagging me out and causing texture problems. Hopefully this will only cause a second of lag at the most. Thanks guys.

    ATK hotkey, mind you.

You will lose all hotkey functionality if you disable it. Maybe that;s what you want or maybe it isn't :)

I can't figure out how to disable ATK hotkey, or prevent ATKOSD from running on startup.

I can uninstall them, but hotkey is definately useful, and on screen display is... sometimes... convenient.

Anyway, does anyone know how to end (then start up again) the hotkey functionality? It doesn't appear in Task Manager, or at least it isn't labelled obviously enough.

And does anyone know if ATKOSD (on screen display) can be disabled from startup? I don't see it in msconfig or CCleaner.

    Thanks.

They should be disable-ble but if you want the functionality of the other hotkeys then it's better not to do it.

Please check the ASUS Info Booth; there is a link there to ASUS notebook keys. That might help you configure your hotkeys, namely the Fn+space to do nothing. I'm not sure it'll work but it's worth a try.
