    Hey all,

I've tried contacting Alfredo, the maker of Speedfan about the problem with having to run Everest and then Speedfan which Bryan and I at www.builtonasus.com discovered in early/mid August. Unfortunately I wasn't successful (had no problem before; perhaps my emails were filtered as bulk). Anyway, good news, someone else succeeded by the alias of Bird59 in these forums.

As a result, you can download this moded version of speedfan and simply overwrite the executable in your installation. No more Everest required! Enjoy.

You mean no more Everest required?

Brilliant! Thanks very much for that update. I was going to stuff around trying to control the order in which programs loaded at startup or even go as far as write a script which loaded Everest, then loaded Speedfan then quit out of Everest but now I don't have too. Much neater :)

haha, yeah, i noticed that in another forum and corrected it and was coming to correct it in here, but you caught my mistake... anyway, i edited it  .

And philip_lasgourgues, I was also digging around as well. Since I was unable to get a hold of Alfredo, I was about to run tracer on the assembly codes that everest runs when you select Sensor to see what it does. Incidentally, most people have been saying "run everest, then speedfan then quit everest" but actually, you just needed to run everest, then you can close it. Each subsequent time (unless you restart) you run Speedfan, the sensors would be detected. So I assume that it had something to do with initializing the SMBus. Anyway, I thought i'd share the find.

I am having trouble getting this "modded" version of speedfan. After downloading the .zip file it says that it is an invalid .zip file. Any suggestions??

    Thanks.

I just tried downloading it and experienced the same thing.. it's either due to the server prematurely disconnecting us, leaving us with a partially downloaded file, OR the file on the server is corrupt.

I believe it's the first scenario...where the server is messing us up. Maybe you can message one of the other members who have already downloaded it and ask them to e-mail the modded .exe to you.

EDIT: I just tried again, and it appears to work now... send me a PM if you want me to send it to you; otherwise, try downloading it again - it should work now.

Could somebody please be so kind to give an idea what the ideal settings are for a W2? I don't want to mess around with settings I do not understand.......

www.builtonasus.com has the file hosted in the forums as well (z71v hardware and then under controlling the CPU and GPU fans). Barnowl, try reading this. It is of course objective, but it'll give you a good idea.

I tried the new modified speedfan and it reads all the correct fan speeds and sensors but when i change the percentage to the gpu fan nothing happens, the fan does not slow down or spin up?
