Yes you can upgrade the CPU (any Socket P "Penryn" will work), but I believe it voids the warranty...

Yes, but also, yes it will void your warranty.

Has anyone tried with the G50V? I'm sure it could easily have taken a 9700m GTS. Absolutely fantastic heat (lack thereof)

I too have the G50Vm-X1 and found this thread to find out if it were even possible. Now that I found the answer...I wonder. How will the upgraded processor react with overclocking in Direct Console? Would it even work?

I do not know. But why not simply buy an A1 or A2 version instead of getting the X, buying a CPU on top of that, and also voiding the warranty while replacing?

Of course, this doesn't apply to those of you who already bought.

I think I remember Ken from GenTechPC saying that the VBIOS of the GPU is integrated in the BIOS for the G50, in which case it would be very difficult, or impossible, to replace the GPU. Also all the other arguments come into play, see theFAQ in the Info Booth for more details.

I got my g50vm-x1 at a deal I couldn't pass up. $1,187.49 Total. It was because BB sold me a model that apparently was used. When I had booted up the first time, I had to log in with a password that someone else programmed into Windows. Password popped up in "Hint". BB took 5% off the asking price. The A's are like +$500 to the price I paid. The X1 is a great laptop. I've been pretty satisfied with it. BB now has a newer version of the G50V, but i like the black and orange theme on the X1. That new silver looking one looks plain, except for the blue design on the back of the screen.

It's not bad, but as I compared them both there are trade offs that just make me stick with what I now have. A faster CPU, but a 5400 RPM Sata hard drive? That's not cool.
