For those of you who have bought ASUS machines, did you receive free shipping? I noticed alot of ASUS resellers provide this service, just wanted to know where you faithful forum members did your purchasing at. thanks.

ISTNC. No free shipping. Still very pleased.

BTW - nothing is really "free". If you get free shipping, rest assured you paid for it in the price.

Lets put it this way...... when you get "free" shipping, you're usually getting uninsured ups ground..... max cost to send across country is $10 for the biggest of the notebooks.....

We'd do it but as I've said before, we'd probably get sued by the ground shippers if their horror stories were posted online..... Neither UPS or FedEx would ever suggest even the use of ground on sensitive equiptment........

    Thanks,
    Justin

Greg, @ ISTNC, there is a $50 mail-in rebate and a $50 discount for students. I have not seen anything like this anywhere else. So I could get the W5a for $1549 + shipping?

That seems like a good deal since they are an ASUS preferred reseller so the 3rd year warranty is still in play.

I don’t know – I would email Rick at ISTNC, or, do the fast “live chat” option on their website. They respond very quickly. It all looks legit, though.

It’s crazy (in a good way) what we can configure a whitebook for when compared to the lesser-quality competition.

Yes, a whitebook, or barebone, is a notebook w/o CPU, HD, or RAM. It is a good, cheap option.

What is my opinion? I think it all depends on the person. For example, I needed a notebook for MBA School. The W3V was exactly what I was looking for, but I didn’t need a dedicated GPU. Here’s where the Z63A came in. It is the W3A barebone. So, I essentially got a W3V for $500 less (see specs below, just over $1400). I only say that because I will mostly be using Microsoft Office, and to be perfectly honest, I would not be able to tell the difference between the Z63A and the W3V. So, right now I am really liking the whitebook option.

For some, though, the whitebook isn’t really an option. I don’t believe there are any ultra-portable whitebooks out there (but I might be wrong).

You could get a Dell or HP for the same price, but the quality is way, way down.

    Did that answer your Q?

Yah, I just wanted to hear you say some manufacturers. [ :D]

I agree it's hard to find a customizable ultra-portable... MSI Computers is coming out with some 12" WXGA whitebooks that could be interesting. I wish there were a whitebook for the W5a. although the bells and whistles that come with the Ensemble config are pretty snazzy. [ :p]

So what method did you use for shipping GregM?

And PROPortable, what shipping method do you use if you don't use ground? What is the option called?
