Figured I'd let everyone know about this promotion going on. You have to be a college student, which is no biggie for me. I'm getting my Asus U30SD-XA1 sometime next week, and will do a full review / unboxing / first impressions.

I've been looking for a good Unboxing for a week or so now and haven't found one, so I'm just going to make my own. Check back here next week to see what I post. :)

    Toodles, Jessekin.

EDIT: Hurr durr I never said where it was. The Promotion is at Amazon.com (US) and you are able to get many laptops other than just the U30SD. :p

If possible, could you also weigh your U30 for us with the battery in?

    Thanks in advance.

I was considering the UL80JT, but the wireless issues turned me away... Figured I'd get something I'll like without any issues.
I also needed something with an optical Drive. And this is the first of the U30 series that has one, so I'm excited to get it :)
I'll be placing my order with 1 day shipping probably this weekend, Wednesday at the latest.

Hopefully My Evo 4G will provide good enough quality for video recording.
Should be interesting as it will be my first un-boxing.

I'll give my first impressions immediately but i'll write / type a written review here with pictures. Should be fun.

I sure will. And you are welcome in advanced :p

Amazon says it weighs 4.5 pounds.

"At less than 4.5-pounds and only 1.5-inches thin, its unique and lightweight design makes it easy to carry anywhere you go."

    That's with the 8 cell battery. :)

Looking forward to see your review.

The U30SD-XA1, along with U36SD-A1, Lenovo X220, and Toshiba R835 are the laptops that I'm considering.

I do believe the Asus U30SD-XA1 with Amazon's $799 price tag and free Xbox 360 make it a great deal, however the U36SD-A1 is attractive as well.

(There haven't been a good deal on the X220 for weeks, and R835's price jumped as well).

    :)

Got some bad news guys :( Went to order my U30SD today to notice that it would ship in 2-4 weeks. Sadly I cannot wait this long for my laptop. I'm going to have to go with The HP Envy 14 or HP DV6QE. Not entirely sure yet... Sorry to disappoint those looking towards my review :(

I will do a review / unboxing on whatever I do end up getting though.

I'll probably post here what I get, so you can look in the forum that the laptop will belong in.

Yup the Envy 14 is going to be what I get. Sorry again guys.
Hopefully someone who is or has ordered the U30SD will do a good review.

I'll keep this posted encase that I decide to wait the 2-4 weeks and get it.

    Chao guys.

i'm in the same boat as you. i think i may have to "settle" with the hp envy 14 as well. too bad the battery life on the envy is terrible, from what i hear. why's it so hard to get sandy bridge + dedicated grafx + good battery life

I actually went with the Toshiba Satellite A665-S5177X $700. I think the integrated graphics will be enough for me, and although it has REALLY bad battery life, im going to buy a 9 cell battery for it with the $200 I saved. Now I can keep the xbox instead of selling it :D

And the Back-lit keyboard is a very big win for me.

Just received the U30SD! Upgraded to 8gb ram right out of the box. First impressions:

-Amazing battery life (5-6 hrs in high performance mode, 8ish hours in battery mode).
    - Sandy bridge is SPEEDY!
    - lots of ASUS bloatware (Deleted most of it)
    - chiclet keyboard is very good (almost no flex on this one)
    - somewhat heavier and thicker than i would've imagined, but for the performance and battery life, i can live with it
    - colors of screen seem washed out/ too bright. need to play with settings more to get to the bottom of this
-VERY sturdily built, especially compared to the ul80jt (and as such, noticeably thicker than the ul80jt)
    - very quiet (have not played any intensive games yet though)
    - 5400rpm drive :( but you can replace it with a SSD i presume
    - graphics switching works just fine
    - there is bluetooth and a SD/MMC slot, and a wifi on/off switch
Any other questions? I'll test out gaming and battery life further as the days pass

So after using my Toshiba for a good week, I think I might return it to get the U30SD... I'm going to have to do the Backlit keyboard mod if I get it. I'm really worried about my warranty though.
