Just obtained the G72GX notebook from best buy and the first thing I did was go to the ASUS Driver Download Site. Whenever I download it the drivers are coming out as as files that can't be opened... it asks me to search online for a program that can open them or look for a program on your computer. Any help?

Most are zip files. Windows should be able to open them, or use Winzip.

For Bios 602... it keeps saying its a ROM type and it can't be opened (even with WinRAR).

if the file is a .rom, download the Winflash utility from ASUS's support site. This is what is needed to use that to flash your bios to your desired bios.

Leave the Bios alone for now. Just update the drivers, then when you get comfortable with "flashing" the bios, go back to it. The bios is not something to mess with if you don't know what your doing!!

Don't take this the wrong way, but you might not want to mess with the bios if you don't know what it is??

Bud, the winflash tool will do no harm for the un-educated non-tech person, its just like downloading and installing. All you do is click yes or not and drive on.

Thanks, I will check it out myself then. I have never flashed Bios'es because I am from the "old school" where you could very easily brick a mobo!! You kids nowadays, Got it made, I tell Ya!!

You can just as easily brick a mobo nowadays too, if you manage to interrupt the BIOS update process ;) It's just that for some mobos at least, you can recover from a bad BIOS flash.

Given your level of knowledge (no offense here, just an assessment) I would also suggest you stay away from updating BIOSes until you read some more.

I would suggest my BIOS update guide for instance. (see my sig)
